First time there last night for me. I thought it was an excellent venue with good staff. Great seeing some life on an evening in Stockton too.

The Libertines were brilliant. Watching them does make you realise the critical views some have of Oasis.

Pete Doherty, ever the romantic, commented a couple of times about the venue. He seemed quite ***ed to me, but still had a good performance.

It really is a fantastic venue. We're lucky to have it. Stockton is fantastic for live stuff these days a lot of great work been done. Cultural centre of Teesside now IMO (yeah I said it 🙂)

It’s a brilliant venue to have on Teesside. I love the place. Hope it continues to thrive and attract quality acts.

It's really good. Love that it slopes so you can see when standing at the back

Libertines were superb, one of the best gigs I've been to. Great set list, staging and lighting superb.

All 4 of them looked like they were enjoying every minute.

Pete was smashed I agree, Carl held it together. To me that's what the Libertines are though, shambolic brilliance.

Babyshambles back next year I've heard

Agree.

I was really impressed with Carl Barat. Didn’t realise he was so good. Plays several instruments and is a great singer live. Thought they were all excellent though. A brilliant performance from all.

Who has the DJ set afterwards? It was mentioned a couple of times. I can only assume it was KU Bar.

I like The Globe and feel it is good for the area and must bring in outside visitors to Stockton but it is funded by tax payers money with each show reported to be costing Stockton Council £16,000.

But thats not what the article says is it ... it says if you average out the annual amount they get from the council, divide it monthly and look specifically at August that year when there was only 2 shows, you could calculate that out to £16,000 for each of THOSE shows. Thats VERY different to £16,000 PER SHOW. Its looking at one quiet month in isolation and nobody looks at a cost/benefit of a business based solely on its quietest month.

Now lets look at the money it brings in ... I dont have that info to hand, but only raise it because it is very clear that is an incredibly biased article that is being extremely selective with its data.

I didnt think you be the type to help spread Tory propaganda

Unsurprisingly that comment comes from a Tory councillor. Perhaps if asked about funding for Opera or Ballet he might have had a more accepting attitude? Also he cherry picked the figures for August (the height of festival season) to make his point on costs. What a tawt.

I'm going to the Globe for the first time to see Jason Isbell (an enormous coup for the area, last time he played the UK closest gig was Manchester) really looking forward to it. Stockton council are being really proactive with the remodelling of the town centre concentrating on cultural events, knocking down the largely empty Castlegate Centre and replacing it with parkland. Bravo to them I say.

Just look at the pub over the road last night. Packed from 6.30pm on a Monday. That is the type of supply chain benefit to having the Globe.

It's not hard facts. It's being incredibly selective on data to skew it in order to make a political point.
The £16,000 per show is skewed but the other payments aren't.

Can you note, that you are all arguing the same point as I am - It is good for the area.

My problem with the Globe is when you go to some of the bands(not all I must stress as I have seen some good concerts there) you get a audience who only know one or two of the songs by the band and talk over the rest of the show. Obviously thats bands who have had a bit of chart success. But will be there for Jason Isbell on Sunday followed by Shed Seven shortly after.

Without Oasis there'd be no Libertines.

They are a good band but I don't actually think they're all that great live. At least not the 3 or 4 times I've seen them.

I like the Globe.

That article is two years old. Even when we were going to The Westgarth TKASG always cut back on the shows in July and August as thats when many take their holidays. The Blaggermuffin include.
