I hope it's ok to share but as a way of supporting Saltburn Theatre I've put together a 4 day 'gathering' celebrating the life and work of 'musical dad' Vin Garbutt, the Teesside Troubadour who left us far too early.

The event, this Thursday to Sunday uses film, music, pods, radio, a new Vin's Way walking route and an end reflection from Middlesbrough Cathedral. The Gathering features over 50 musicians and creatives from across the world and, as you'd expect, it is all available to enjoy from home.

Full details available from www.vingarbutt.com I hope you can join us. All the very best. Mike

Sounds class, loved Vin. Still remember feeling starstruck seeing Vin in The Vic in Saltburn enjoying a pint with the fiddle player from The Wildcats of Kilkenny..wonder what happened to him?😁

Thank you for this. I've sent the info onto my Dad who is a fan.
Cheers

Listened tonight to the free Podcast and the Ring Of Iron - BBC Tees Event.

Well worth listening to even if you aren't interested in folk music.

When people post on here about Teesside character a lot can be heard through Vin and his story telling - When I listen to Vin its like being in a pub in South Bank in 1973 or listening to my relatives - in fact I started to think he was an Uncle at one stage. The under stated story telling, suddenly saying or doing something wacky, the warmth and wit, just been 100% human. The world is changing and I don't know if it will be same in the future as generations following become older, so characters like Vin may varnish. I hope not.

I had to LOL when Vin told the story of the social worker coming to his new house in Loftus and starting putting his kids to bed and then discovering she had the wrong house. The neighbouring farmhouse had a old man called Garbutt living there who needed who needed home help. Vin was so dead pan in his delivery.
