You know, I'm something of a Sherlock Holmes for transfer ongoings. In what follows, I can say some things with certainty with the single caveat that it's very much a moveable feast.

There's a talk of talk about "Gile-oh" at present. It is said that he's attracted the attention of Luton Town, and there may or may not be something in that. He's a player who has been on our radar ever since he played for us a few months ago, and probably before that (which is the reason why we eventually took him on loan). Why would he rejoin Boro? Well, the signs are that he enjoyed his time here - he's put this on record in interviews - and he knows he is likely to be in the first team. Luton, on the other hand, may well have put a bid in according to reports and we're not clear on whether Boro have. In that context, there is reason to doubt that he will return to Boro: submitting a 'bid' is the basic pre-condition of any transfer, and that's been true since before the dawn of the Premier League. If Boro do submit a bid, then there will have to be decision at some point, unless of course he stays at Wolves. That's entirely possible as he is contracted to them. I shouldn't say any more, really.

What of Choobs? He's been carrying an injury since the ill-fated final game of the season and hasn't appeared for us - neither on pitch nor in photo - since a few early snaps of him in the gym were leaked via the club's official website upon the return of players to Rockliffe. If he's injured, the likelihood of him playing and training is vastly reduced and would explain his absences from recent matches / kickabouts. There's another school of thought that suggests he is unlikely to appear for us again as the club see him as a player who could attract a fairly significant transfer fee. I'm undecided on where the truth may lie but you can say he will / won't play for us this season with a fair degree of certainty. So that's what you should say if somebody happens to ask you.

And then there's Howson. He's also reportedly injured and that's a fair assumption to make given the manager's comments on the matter - "Jonny has a bit of a niggle at the moment so we're hoping he's back in training soon". It's more or less confirmed that he'll be given armband this year. At the same time, I'd stake my entire earnings on Lenihan getting it while also saying it's got Chuba's name on it if he stays. In sum: expect Howson to lead us into battle against Millwall in August provided that he doesn't move to another club (could happen).

If the phone rings, I'll post about Giles's situation with a bit more detail. It depends very much on whether it's a football-related call or just something different. One thing I've always promised myself is to let the facts speak for themselves and only speak when something is more or less a certainty depending on a few 'known unknowns'.

Definitely cleared a few things up. Cheers (y)

Thanks for this. Stuff is definitely going to happen, or not.

Timely wisdom indeed and enough to calm the minds of many of those in turmoil, by offering them concrete facts that they may not have considered.

Such sage counsel that it can only have came from Haverton himself. 👍

So Giles could sign for us or might not. Whereas Chuba will definitely sign for us or someone else. On top of that Howson might or might not be captain depending on if he signs for us or someone else.
I can finally sleep easily tonight knowing that or maybe not.
