The Crown Office, which is meant to be independent, has become the 'lickspittle arm' of the SNP Government, says Alistair Bonnington, former professor at Glasgow University's School of Law. It operates 'at the direct command of the cabal currently at the head of the Scottish Government.

By sheer good luck Sturgeon's diary is empty on the three days she has had meetings with her husband, who by again good luck is a senior member of the SNP.

It seems she goes to the same school of politics as Boris.

Yes, the only magazine brave enough to publish the report she has blocked.

I am surprised you are supporting censorship of the press, but hey ho.

someone, somewhere, somehow has got rattled about the call for self determination of the scottish people.

Hey-Ho.
I would be over the moon if they were independent. Their share of the national dept to be based on the Barnett formula. Good luck to them and the Euro.

Not like Bonnington hasn't lambasted the state of the Scots legal system before.

The term Banana Republic is not racist, it's used to describe an unstable country reliant on limited resources exploitable by other nations, such as Latin American countries exploited by United Fruit for bananas. It's a bit of an exaggeration when applied here but hardly racist.

It's not really racist. I'm sure it has been used by racists to make unfavourable comparisons between certain countries, but the term itself is - as Colin says - a shorthand for a certain type of state.

That's not to say that usage and meaning doesn't change with time and/or actors. Just look at what our treasured press have done with the term woke over the last few years.

I'm defending usage of the term as I previously used it on here to describe the Tories' behaviour in handing dodgy PPE contracts.

I would have to say that the term banana republic should be consigned to the past - fairly derogatory and racist is it not?
I think you might need to read up on where the term Banana republic comes from. To suggest it is racist is frankly stupid. Bandying around "racist" willy nilly is not helpful in any way shape or form. You should think of the potential implications for others before you accuse people of such things.

He sounds like a D1CK. What a ridiculous thread.
