The end?

That's the thing, it's not easy to appreciate just how massive the country is. I suppose it's why those of us who've been there have our own versions of the place.
Yeah it’s ridiculous isn’t it. Just watched one of my fave travel YouTubers: littlechineseeverywhere visit Vladivostok. They mentioned that Moscow was 6000km away! How do you control such a country

Last year I left Almaty where it was 6C, arrived in Aktobe 2.5 hours later where it was -34C not including windchill 🤣. What the soldiers face in this miserable winter war is brutal.

Former Royal Navy captain gives his views on the, ongoing, scandi cable cutting Yi Peng 3 incident..

Bit of a read, even for this thread..

Good read.

But the timing of it within hours/ days of Ukraine using long range weapons), slowing down, switching off the transponder, where the ship was from, who was piloting it etc, it's too much of a coincidence.

The ship was either doing the damage or there was something else at the same time the ship was, doing the damage. So the ship was either responsible or the decoy (bait) and the captain either knew the full picture or didn't.

Russia could have had the ship captain in on it, basically act in a way like it was you doing the damage (he won't have known what else they were doing), but during that use a sub or ROV to do the damage. Then the Russians know the authorities will check the boat for evidence, find nothing, and then all the time during that decoy, what has done the damage gets away.

As soon as it is/ was inspected they will have a good idea what did it either way.

I would be surprised if key sub sea cables are not surface monitored intermittently, but the second it happened they would have known exactly where it was broken using TDR. Then within minutes the satellites will have been pointed to the location, looking for boats etc. I bet they mobilised the sea scanner aircraft too, like our Posiedon. I bet they were tracking the boat before it even got to the second cable, i.e they could see it coming.

Absolutely, 9th biggest country I the world I believe so always going to offer different experiences to visitors. I was there 2013-2018 and visited again in 2022, it’s changing constantly so I’m sure I’ll find a new perspective when I return again.

The Swedish prosecutors clearly think they have strong evdence, which has been presented to, and accepted by, the Chinese.

I do wonder how long NATO - as it is now - will exist though, I do think it will be a much more European based block [ Obama & esp Trump, were right that EU countries needed to step up & start paying their 2% worth ] too many effectively neglected their collective responsibility..

Pretty sure Putin will have ideas regarding a weak NATO, that the Orange Turd has given the OK to do as he wants - I think he'll have ideas of more 'special operations' in former USSR countries & others - Georgia..

I’m not so sure that “el humpo” will be as much of a walk over for Putin as we seem to think. ( i personally was of the view he would be)
However recent appointments in his defence department and the fact that there is an opportunity now that Russia can be degraded to such an extent that it breaks up and allows the US to focus on their biggest strategic competitor (china).

Look at what’s happening in Syria .. the Russians are about to loose there major Mediterranean port facilities, the Baltic is now a nato lake. The Chinese are building up forces in the east on the borders ( milatary exercises and leaving the kit on station when they finish)
The Russians are now fighting a war they politically can’t stop and can’t economically afford ..
I’m leaning toward the tangerine tosspot turning the screws till Russia breaks up and the Chinese going into Siberia for the resources.

You could be right, we will see in his first 100 days some hint of what is 'planned' - maybe China will open an eastern front & relieve Vlad of, some of, his Pacific ports & land also..

Looking at what this war has done for degrading the Russian arms industry reputation and its exports, which have tanked, I imagine there will be significant players in the US pushing for Russia to be taken out of the game for the benefit of the US weapons manufacturers.

Trump doesn’t back losers, it’s just possible, when he realises Russia is screwed economically and militarily, that he weighs in heavily on Ukraine’s side to take the credit and spin it about showcasing US weapons.

Pretty much on the button, apart from the last El Humpo conjecture. The jury is out on that one. EU and the Nordics are certainly banking on him being an ****.

Note the Syrian rebels are getting substantial "assistance" from Ukraine. More later.
Missive incoming.

Don't know how much Bannon is involved these days but his "Christian nationalist" school of thought always made the case for Russia as an ally against China and Islamism ( with underlying anti semitism )
