I hope Ukraine has a plan.
Trump said he'll end the war in weeks if he gets in.
Maybe not in a good way
He doesn't have the power with NATO that he thinks he does, and has even less control over individual nations who will of course just keep funding and fighting etc, as the money spent is a far lesser risk to them than the long term alternatives.
It's not like he's going to be able to say, "look Ukraine, just give them the territory they've took over, and give them back what you've took over" as Ukraine and the surrounding EU nations within NATO will just say "No", and rightly so.
It's not like he will even do any of what he's said either, the guy is full of BS, everything he's said about "cutting funding", "stopping the war" (how he means, which isn't by beating Russia) and "leaving NATO" is just BS to get headlines and pick up naïve voters, and it works. It doesn't mean he will do any of it, he rarely does what he says he will, he tells the largest lies of anyone in the world.
Then there is also the time this will all take, till inauguration, that's like the end of Jan, and then the transition takes months after that, and the US system is very slow. It cold be a year before any of the changes he even wants, if he does get them, manage to take effect.
Lets also not forget how paranoid the US are, if the US pulls funding for Ukraine and starts being problematic with Ukraine bordering NATO/ EU countries then they could literally kick the US out, and US has bases all over these places. The US will hate that, and it won't help their paranoia.
I'm not sure what funding and supplies the USA have already committed to, but I imagine that will be hard to stop now, and obviously there is still a lot of appetite to carry that on as it's not money down the drain for the USA, it's money which is making Russia significantly weaker, which is also making other nations they're aligned with weaker. Strategically the funding makes sense to them, and a new president won't change that.
The guys a clown, but will hopefully still have some good military/ strategic advisors and the generals etc, and they know not funding Ukraine for a proxy war will make them weaker on the world stage. The US probably cares and cared little for Ukraine, but they will always largely see Russia as an enemy, and funding/ supplying someone else fighting a battle for them kind of suits them. It's even better for them if they can get rid of old/ excess stock, which they otherwise wouldn't use and maybe they might get something in return for it.
