The Dijksteel situation

I felt a strange sense of sadness watching that performance from him last night. Felt sorry for him at times.

I've always liked him, whenever he's been fit and had a run of games he's put in some excellent performaces and rarely let us down. Especially under Warnock.

It's quite obvious Carrick doesn't fancy him, and he'll be off in the summer. You kind of knew that would be his last game last night, would have loved him to put in a strong goodbye performance but he was so rusty and short on confidence.

He's one of those "what could have been" players. Such a shame about the injuries as he looked a real prospect.

He came on against someone not long ago and put in one of the worst sub performances I've ever seen, can't remember who it was against. It's a shame really because with the way we play under Carrick I'd have thought Dijksteel would be one of those that benefit the most from it.

I would have tried him in the centre of the pitch as a ball winner, i think he started off in that position as a youth player and played there early doors for charlton

He lacks the on the ball technical ability or the off the ball tactical knowledge. He’s a great league one player and an ok bottom half champo player. He’ll get a contract somewhere at this level I’m sure

He was totally deflated after the 4th goal. Was on his knees. You could tell he knew himself that he just hadn't performed. Was subbed 5 mins later.
It was a terrible performance but I think it'll be his last in a boro shirt

He’s still reasonably young, there’s no reason he couldn’t get his head down and become a consistent championship player. I think he has a lot to offer and he’s struggled to get into his stride enough. It feels like a move could be mutually beneficial but I’d had no issue with him staying

Feel sad for the lad. He’s got all the physical attributes, good pace, and not afraid to run with the ball or get forward. His crossing is poor but, if he had just a little more aggression I think he’d be a right goodun. Writing has been on the wall for a while for him but I think given a proper injury free run he could have been our first choice. In and out of the team and playing second fiddle to various loanees and free agents can’t have done his confidence any good.
Shame, I really hope it works out for him wherever he goes next.

this is my post on a different thread

"Said it on here repeatedly, Dijksteel lacks the application, concentration and nastiness to be a championship level defender. He does really basic defending wrong. Look at his body shape on the photo still of the "offside" goal doing the rounds, square on and ball watching.

I really do despair when people on here put his case forward as an option for RB. Madness"

There was a bouncing ball yesterday, Dijksteel played it like he was a batsmen facing a 5th day delivery at lords and played it off his pads! Control the ball man!

Not surprised he had a poor game, either injured or suspended most of this season.
Seems to be plenty of players at Middlesbrough FC the moment who out injured, its making Johnny Woodgate's career look like he was an ever present throughout it.
I think MC has done very well to compete against some top opposition. I wonder if he will stay ? he is contracted to June 2025 and he maybe a man of his word, but Gibbo might cash in on him.
Lots of posters seem to think Latte, Hackney, Forss, Fry, McGree, VDB will be sold ? If so it seems a pointless job MC has imho.

Dijksteel has another season in his contract, so I cant see him leaving unless he gets an offer that suits him better on better terms.
Smith returning from a very bad injury on his last season to, cant see the point in signing Ayling. Perhaps we will buy another young un as back up.

McNair and Howsons contracts are up in June this year, although Johnny has a had a good season he is 36 in May.
Those statues outside must be worth a few bob, its a wonder Prossers have enquired.
Anyway I'm just a bit disillusioned this morning, happens every season at some point. Could be worse I suppose.

Ailing is twice the player than Smith, Dijksteel will go leaving us with only a crocked? Smith. Signing Ayling is a no brained for me.

He had spells when he looked really good for us, but that is a very long time ago now. It is clearly time for him to move on. Sitting on the bench clearly has not done him any good. He needs to find a team where he is 1st choice, and then perhaps he can rediscover his mojo.

Good going forward, but an atrocious defender

Unlucky with the penalty last night really tbh, but his performance all game was sub-standard.

Sure he will find a club that suits him as he can be a good player with confidence but he isn’t fancied by Carrick and he knows it which isn’t helping with his performance.

A fresh start is needed for him. Wish him well I was a tad harsh on him during the game but he was very rusty and never looks good on the right of a 4 man defence.
