Theres no money in regional small business advertising any more, national chain on adverts only, even the regional print will be gone in 18 months, websites only. Community radio like Zetland with 2 paid presenters and the rest voluntary is all we will be left with. Better than the local Beeb in some respects.

They did this a while back with TFM. At that point, I stopped listening to it. I don't listen to Capital or Heart now and will most likely stop listening to Wessex FM (which is part of this rebranding) from tomorrow. I like local radio, it always felt like a small part of home I could tune into and I loved the local accents. Why should I engage with a national channel producing stuff in London who have no idea whats happening in my hometown. I get they are trying to boost viewership, but laying off DJ's, music from 20 years ago and no local identity. Radio has become 'beige' and boring.

If it means more stations like Zetland springing up thats adequate compensation as far as I'm concerned. A station I only discovered messing about with our company's flat-bed truck's radio when working at Sirius' Wilton site 18 months ago. And as no lover of music from the mid 80s onwards found their playlist surprisingly broad & varied. So much so that it quickly became my music station of choice, with their sunday afternoon 70s show in particular being excellent. The added bonus is that I live about 20 miles west of its transmitter site and can still get a decent reception. So it was nice to find a replacement for the brilliant but short lived Vintage Music Radio.

Was surprised to hear on Aire FM today that it was their last day broadcasting.

Id already established Stray FM, Minister FM, Yorkshire Coast and KCFM are all going to be Greatest Hits Radio radio from Tuesday ... thats some frequencies across yorkshire
