Thatcher started the green revolution by closing the mines….

Shows how despeate he's become...... trying to deflect his own chaos and stupidity by bringing something up that happened nearly 40 years ago.

and the steelworks.

and the car plants.

and shipbuilding

and engineering

the truth is it was all about smashing organised labour and job security for workers and their families..

brutal capitalism at its best for the rich and at its worst for the poor - the commencement of the race to the bottom for wages, terms and conditions.

she put the wreckin' ball through the communities that were built around those industries.

She also said that if a man didn't have a car he had failed in life.
Mind you, in defence of her green policies- she did not build any hospitals or council houses and reduced funding to local authorities so that they could not afford youth clubs- a trait since emulated by successive tory governments

She really replaced coal with natural gas for power generation, cleaner but not clean or green.

The law of unintended consequences can have positive as well as negative outcomes, there was nothing in Thatcher's destabilisation of the Union's and oppression of the labour market that was intended to have a beneficial impact on the environment, we continued to import coal from countries that created more pollutants through less regulation and which had the additional negative effect on the planet of shipping, that alone shows that Thatcher was no champion of Green issues or any kind of eco-warrior, whatever words she used in the latter part of her Premiership were more than countered by her actions, plus if Johnson is saying it gives it less credence a man who can count the truth as one of the many unsuccessful relationships in his life.
