Tell me about the 74/75 Boro team/season

Read the previous posts.
Re drawing with Derby, with a last minute error.
1 point extra for us 1 point less for Derby,
Different mindset going into 2 away games which were lost.
None of the other top teams needed to drop anymore points if we had won the 2 games at Leicester and Wolves which we were more than capable of doing at that time.
It was a shock if we conceded a goal home or away but wouldn’t expect you to understand that, not having watched Charlton’s team.

It was a significant gap, as I gave in my explanation

Boro were never close to winning the league
HG not going to descend the discussion into panto season.

As somebody very well invested in 1973-4 we were very close to winning the League. We beat Liverpool , took 3 points off Derby the eventual champions and not only that tore them apart at the Baseball Ground and played them off the pitch at Ayresome at the end of the season. Sadly that Boam error was pivotal in the momentum we were building. We lost the next two games that we should have won. With that lost point against Derby 5 points that would have taken the title. That my friend is not “significant” and a I’m sure most reasonable observers on here would agree.

Choose to play it down by all means but you’re wrong.

I can agree with that, though not happy with the 'old fart', 😉

Im 61 years young 😁
I include myself in that description! Fundamentally, I still feel seventeen but I was talking about how the young perceive the old. When I was actually seventeen, I thought anyone over the age of 27 had one foot in the grave. Thankfully, at 64 I've still got the other foot on the ground. For the time being anyway............

1974-75 was the closest we ever came to winning the titlr but not the highest League position. We finished 4th in 1938-39 but we were 10 points off eventual champions Everton. And then the war came.

“We lost the next two games that we should have won” 😂😂😂😂😂 are you serious

That’s the difference between champions and teams who finish 7th. They didn’t lose critical games they should’ve won.

That’s like going out of the quarter-finals of the World Cup and saying you nearly won the World Cup.

What a strange argument fella - equating a defeat in a Cup QF to a 42 game regular season. Weird. You'd argue with your own shadow I shouldn't wonder guv.

What are you talking about? With 5 games left we were 3 points off the top with a game in hand 😂.

The league doesn’t finish 5 games early though

Obviously fell short when it mattered and finished 7th. So that’s not close.
