I have worked the other side of the river and it’s much quicker to drive round it than wait for it to go back and forth carrying only 9 cars a time across. And that’s when it’s open, if someone farts in port Clarence they close it.

Add up all those extra miles for workers driving across to Newport bridge or the a19 and back again and that’s a **** load of pollution the bridge is contributing too.

It’s completely useless as a working bridge and a proper replacement at that end of the town is a must, if it needs elevating or a swing bridge putting in to ensure ships can still get past to Dawsons and BOJ a few times a day when they need to then so be it!

That would possibly cost far more than to reopen the bridge. The land is flat either side of the river - vessels and offshore units regularly need high clearance. You still have the same problems as the engineers faced early 20th century. It is not like the Tyne or Wear where you have high river banks.
