Team for Wednesday

We had no drive, no passion. no leaders on the pitch. What was the talk at halftime, did they get a Bollo**ing and told to step it up in the 2nd half ? We regressed in the 2nd half and made Stoke look good, we were lucky it was only 2-0.


Not sure who I would pick for Wednesday night, I would like/hope the loan players are on the bench, Dijksteel Engel McNair Azaz replacing
(Ayling Thomas O'Brien & Greenwood) that would be a start.

I’m not sure that’s entirely fair on Forss who played well first half, his head dropped last 20 when it was obv we were getting nowt from the game, but they all did

You didn’t mention rav or Clarke, they were acceptable too. But you can’t win with 3 players getting a 6/10 and the rest south of that

Similar to you but I would drop McGree into midfield for Barlaser - his confidence is absolutely shot and the crowd will be on his back the second he makes a mistake. It’s unkind to play him at the moment.
Then have Forss Azaz and Lath as the 3 forwards.

Basically the same team as Leicester.
 
Yesterday [along with Bristol / Plymouth / Rotherham] just convinced me we don't have a “team” - just a group of individuals.
If we play like we did against Leicester, after yesterdays “performance” then great!
Trouble is, we will more likely concede, collapse and be a complete mess [again].
Hope I'm wrong.

I'd be surprised if we change it too much given the players at our disposal. We only have two fit central midfielders currently which probably rules out a midfield three.

Not convinced wing backs is the answer either. It's such a specialised role and I don't think we've got one player at the club who I would class as a wing back. Bangura probably the closest but he's out injured.

Time to go Full Metal Pulis. Well, not really, nobody wants that but when a team can't win, the first thing you do is send them out not to lose. 5-4-1 with defensive wing-backs.

The midfield 4 is a diamond with Barlaser at the base and McGree at the tip. Basically, we need to pack the centre of the pitch and rely on being able to head away crosses. Barlaser used to play in a midfield 3 at Rotherham with enforcers either side of him and a central defender covering him. If Barlaser's head has gone then put O'Brien in the middle, McGree on the left and Azaz at the tip.

If we need to chase the game then we transition to a 3-4-2-1.

Now that McGree has confirmed he wants to be away, I'm not sure I'd pick him tbh. Where's his head at?
