Team for Tomorrow

What would you go for tomorrow given the new signings that have come in. I know there has been talk about O'Brien replacing Howson but personally I'd rather see Hackney moved further forward and O'Brien drop in next to Howson. Still think Howson's experience is vital to us. Hackney played more advanced in a few games at the end of the season when Ramsey and Mcgree were injured and did well. I think he is looking more of a goal threat this season as well so may get us a few more goals playing higher up the field;

For me I'd go

Dieng
McNair Fry Lenihan Engel
Howson O'Brien
Forss McGree Hackney
Latte Lath

Only problem would be the lack of width on the left so would probably need to allow Engel to play higher up the pitch and hope that O'Brien can give a bit more protection.

Or is Carrick going to rip up his template and go 4-3-3 with Howson, Hackney and O'Brien? I hope not as I want to see us keep playing on the front foot like last season

Hadn't seen that. If so then yeah I'd give Jones a chance. Has done well in short bursts so far this season. See if he can take his chance from the start

Is Smith not back? Was he not suspended v Bolton?

Would be surprised if O'Brien was straight in.

Dieng
Smith (McNair if suspended)
Fry
Lenihen
Engel
Howson
Hackney
Jones
Rogers
McGree
Latte Lath

O'Brien would go in for me, and potentially try Hackney more advanced? might not work but would be interesting to see.

Hackney did do well in that position last season a couple of times, and probably would also offer that bit of protection along with O'Brien if Engel got forward. I don't think we'll see it on saturday though

I'm going to lean into my suggestion yesterday of Howson playing as an inverted full back, giving us a 3 in midfield at times so you can play O'Brien, Howson and Hackney.

Jones, Morgan and McGree behind Lath for me if Forss is injured.

I saw a couple of others on another thread talked about trying Howson at right back, which I would like to see, then O'Brien slots in for him. Three behind the striker is a bit of a conundrum as all the options have done well as subs, but none really when starting so far this season.

I thought McNair played well on Tuesday and should keep his place. Got a decent pass/cross from deep - he can also sit deeper and tuck in as Engel gets forward.

I'd start O'brien on the bench and play Howson/Hackney.

And I would play Jones, Rogers and McGree behind Lath.
