Taxi driver shortage

They are all in McDonald's driving for Deliveroo, Just Eats, etc.
Been there today for the first time in years. I didn't realise the fast food model had changed to the point where actually going inside is not fast any more cos they're too busy serving delivery drivers and drive through customers. Don't think I'll be going back for a few more years.
Yeah there is no chance of quick service now

the queues for delivered fast food are phenomenal now. From opening the drivers are queuing for deliveries. Opened up a huge market.

Do they order personally or does deliveroo go straight to the fast food places and deliveroo sublet to drivers?

I used uberr eats in poland just before the pandemic. You order on the uber app, which redirects you to the takeaway of your choice then returns you to the app. Paid directly from your card. It is a great system in the middle of winter when its minus 10 and snowing and you just wanna eat a kebab and watch netflix.

So the drivers are basically paid as a taxi driver would be? Pickup and drop off but without the small talk.

I heard a rumour (nothing more than that) that many Boro Taxi drivers had moved into food delivery for more money. I imagine if, during the pandemic, more people were ordering food and fewer people were going places this could be true. It certainly takes longer to get a Boro Taxi these days.

I imagine many would not have got much government support during Covid as they all would have earned £12500 pa.

Chatting to the driver last weekend he was saying the firm we use was down by about 1/3 of pre-covid numbers as most had found other non driving work. Since then though, the remaining drivers were earning a fair bit more as they were so busy. It means we always pre book now as just ringing up means a wait, but that's no hardship. Most uber eats and deliveroo around us are on push bikes or mopeds

Maybe there’s just too many taxis, certainly is in Middlesbrough and plenty with Wolverhampton badges.
