Tavernier in the oppositions box

Great point around the use of his right foot.

I found that on several occasions last year we used the ball like a hot potato in the oppositions box, Marvin Johnson was more often the culprit. I felt this was the missing link between the mid-table finish and a Play Off spot in certain games.

Tav reminds me in some ways of Andros Townsend and if he has a career along those lines he'll have done alright and probably earned us a few quids into the bargain.

That’s not a bad comparison. I see a lot of Dele Alli in him too in the way he moves on and off the ball.

For me, this is one of the areas of Tav's game that if he improves, will notch him up to an exceptional young talent. He seems to have the intelligence to be in the right areas at the right times, however even going back to last season I found his composure in the oppositions box frustrating and he often fires a shot off without giving it much thought or lifting his head.

Jones's assist yesterday was a great example of just taking that extra touch to weigh up the options.

Has anyone recognised this?
Actually, Neil Warnock has recognised this - when I interviewed him after the friendly v Saltash he talked about Lewis Wing's composure when about to shoot and Tav needing this also. Ironic in a way, considering Wing going out on loan. But I think experience will get him there. On Sunday the fact he was prepared to run at players and not give up on it was a big contribution to the goal, wasn't it. He is always trying to make things happen and he likes to be direct. You could see he was trying to copy Harry Wilson in carrying the ball across goal and shooting - hopefully he can get up to that level this season - then he and Boro will really be in business.

Hugely underrated by some and overrated by others. He’s very good at this level and should have no problem making the step up to the Premier league. Hopefully it’s with us.

Just needs to polish up on his finishing I think. It seems he often gets himself into great positions, doing much of the work himself only to put it wide or over. That said, I rate him big time, one of the first names on the team sheet for me and he's got a great future ahead of him.

It also seems like he enjoys his football and his teammates which is great to see.

I’m surprised the focus is in his finishing. His set plays the other night were dreadful. The corner he ballooned Pat everyone. The failed short corners. He has potential but is by no means the finished article. At any level those corners were dreadful let alone at championship level.

agree with others as well I don’t think you can train yourself to have a good right foot - by this age you either have it or you never will.

he’s a good player but is a bit inconsistent.

just my opinion of course.

You absolutely can make big improvements to your weak foot if you put the work in. I’m not sure if he has a very poor right foot or just doesn’t feel comfortable using it. His assist against Forrest was right footed and was weighted pretty much perfectly.

Good player and we look a far better team when he is fully fit. Sadly he does seems to pick up a lot of niggly injuries which has impacted his development.

Do you think so at his age - I would expect marginal improvements at best.

It frustrates me a little bit to see him being played as a 'winger', because that he is not, he's best used coming from deeper areas, either as a no. 10 or more advanced midfielder. His pass for our first goal the other night was fantastic.

I think NW has some problems, in a good way, trying to get his best players into the same side. Crooks seems nailed on to start, especially if Sporar plays, which limits his choices.

I still think he's the first name of the team sheet for us though.

This is it for me. What he really needs is to stay injury free and complete a full season. A lot of the other issues will iron themselves out if he can manage that.

Playing matches is the best way to improve. We know what he's capable of, but he needs to be playing regularly. Hopefully he can do that now.

Funny game isn't it.😁 It frustrates me to see him playing centrally. Think him playing wide is his best position, allows him to drift around. He's also great in tight areas. If he can improve his finishing, coming in off the right which he is great at should see him get alot more goals.

We need someone to feed Sporar with he right kind of ball.

The pass from Tav that played Sporar in for his goal is exactly what's required.

I'm not saying Sporar won't score from crosses into the box, and Hernandez certainly needs to improve his delivery from wide but, it's clear that Sporar is always looking for that ball through the channels.
