Takeaway Prices

Anyone constantly disappointed after a takeaway now? Prices have gone up and portion size and quality not on the way down.

I got a ninja woodfire grill and I just say everything I seem to do is better than any takeaway. Paying for itself. In the fridge I have some chicken thighs marinating in a greek style rub ready for later. Tomatoes out the fridge on warming gently on the window sill. A thing of dreams

If Curry is your thing get yourself to Asda and buy their Bom Bahia curries . There are about 6 different varities to choose from. In about 40 years of trawling around supermarkets for a curry as good as an Indian restaurant or take-away this range is the best by a country mile ! Each is 400g and states for 2 people on the packaging, which is ridiculous as the contents is on par with what you would get for one person in a take-away or Indian Restaurant. All these Curries are £5 each and are absolutely goorgeous.

You can even get them in a meal deal were 2 Curries and 2 sides are only £10 ( sides e.g. pilau rice are £2.50 each ) . That would be about £30 in your average take-away.

Only pitfall ( at Skelton Asda) is they NEVER have any sides at all on the shelf! Customer services informed me they hardly ever get sent any !? Regardless ive just bought 2 to scoff whilst watching the boxing tonight and I'm going to e-mail Asda pointing out I didnt get £5 of sides promoted in the offer.

Pizza Pan at Acklam do the Godfather deal which is large Parmo, 10" Pizza, Kebab and extra portion of chips for around £12.99 Good deal for if you're feeding the family.
I used to be a huge fan of Pizza Pan, particularly the parmos.

However, in the last few years it seems to have changed. Not sure if they’ve change chicken supplier or how they prep it, but their parmos these days seem to be much thinner. They always used to be really thick and decent quality. Had a few bad ones in the last 12 months, which never used to be the case.

When they’re good though, you can’t fault the value.

I’ll be getting one tonight as our lass is going out, set meal for one from the Massala in town, £16

Any starter, any main, any rice, any naan, popadom and dip
For exactly the same we use Coriander at the palladium shops grove hill. Think it's £14.50 and a bit cheaper if 3 or 4 people. Lovely every time.
Not tried Massala yet but may next time.

If pizza shops can keep their prices low and still give large portions why can't Indian, Chinese or fish and chip shops?

You should be disrespectful to the parmo its a vile dish
Vile (horrible word) in what way? There’s nothing really to them is there? Obviously some are better than others and to write off a whole dish because you might have had a bad one seems a bit daft. You can’t really even bring the health aspect into it because most of the dishes mentioned are not very healthy.

Pretty hungover today and craving a Chinese tonight with the boxing on. Can anyone guess how much the following order will cost.

1/4 Crispy Duck
Chicken Egg Fu Yung
Chicken and Pork Chow Mein
Egg Fried Rice
Chips
Curry Sauce

Not been there for a little while, shame if that's the case as like you say the Parmos were always spot on.

Not Chinese...but the pizza shop round the corner from us in norton (formally pizza guys now amore) do a great deal.....10" pizza, 10" cheese garlic bread, small (but I'd class is as half) parmo with chips and salad, another portion of chips, a portion of donor meat and 2 dips for £20 quid. Order it off their app and you get £3 off.
As you can see we tend to get the takeaways in now when we can find/have deals because the prices these days are ridiculous
That's my takeaway of choice for pizzas these days. Billingham Balti for an Indian.

Last day of restaurant week today, We've been twice this week, 2 or 3 courses for £20 each, you usually get smacked round the chops on a pint of beer or other drink, but it's still great value.

On Saturday afternoons we usually go to "Ythai" in Stokesley. £9.99 meal deal, Thai spring roll and a choice of main it a steal, no idea how they do it, we usually spend just over £30 which includes 2 pints.

I'm going against the grain here, but I don't think less than an hour's wage for a portion of fish and chips is that bad.

I'm much more forgiving with fish prices though, as half of the fish we're eating are endangered.

We're never running out of chickens or cows.

I've stopped ordering pizzas and parmos from takeaways in recent years though as they're almost always ***** now.
Even the places that used to be spot on.

Flour, water, tomatoes, cheese.

A mate worked in a pizza shop about 20 years ago and said a margarita pizza cost 40p to make in ingredients

Tbh, reason I go to Lidl and half the freezers are empty is certain takeaways go in there at 8am, buy all the Deep pan pizzas, put a few bits on and sell them at 3 times the price.

Be pretty stupid if they did.

The cost of making a pizza is less than what Lidl charges for one retail, and they'd need huge freezers to keep them in.
