Takeaway Prices

We haven't had a takeaway for a while but decided to have a Chinese last night. Special Black Bean, veg Foo Yung, 1 chips, 1 fried rice. nearly Twenty Six pounds. I can see why we don't get them very often now, crazy prices and mine was rubbish, just tasted sweet, how is that possible!?

Take aways in general are on the up, but I’ve always found Chinese overpriced for what they are, and generally, pretty poor quality. I tend to avoid Chinese for that reason and just make my own.

We tend to opt for Indian instead but that’s not cheap if you like getting a few accompaniments - Bhaji’s / Samosa’s etc.

We’ve cut down a lot on take away lately and I’ve been cooking a lot more stuff fresh. It is so much better if you can be bothered with the effort.

My problem is inevitably after a day on the sauce. Alcohol for me, always ends up with regrettable food choices! 🙃

Take away prices has gone through the roof over the past few years. A noticeable difference.

Where did you use ?
Oriental Pearl Nunthorpe Chinese, 1st and last time. Actually is was closer to £25 not £26
And we both enjoy cooking too so it makes things so much easier.
Same here Rob. Mrs Git is away next weekend doing a charity walk, I just said I fancy having a takeaway veggie burger, salad and chips next weekend. Then I immediately said, screw it, I'll just make my own

This is 100% my favourite but for poppadom's, samosas, bhajis we buy from an Indian supermarket and freeze ready to use :D

Not Chinese...but the pizza shop round the corner from us in norton (formally pizza guys now amore) do a great deal.....10" pizza, 10" cheese garlic bread, small (but I'd class is as half) parmo with chips and salad, another portion of chips, a portion of donor meat and 2 dips for £20 quid. Order it off their app and you get £3 off.
As you can see we tend to get the takeaways in now when we can find/have deals because the prices these days are ridiculous

I’d rather places just made portion sizes smaller, especially parmos, rather than increasing prices.

The size of even “half parmos” at most takeaway places is just a ridiculous amount of food for one person.

Pizza Pan at acklam used to do a small parmo for £5-6 which was an ideal size

Me and Mrs Burger get a takeaway two or three times a week, but cook healthy meals on the other four or 5 days. We share a set Chinese meal for 1 as it's plenty of food and our favourite takeaway always chucks in free spring rolls, chicken wings and dips. Our favoured pizza shop does 7" pizzas so that's an ideal size along with chips and garlic sauce, orders over £9 get a free 10" garlic bread too.

If anything is too expensive it's the chippy, the cost of cod has absolutely skyrocketed and although I like haddock, by the time you've removed the skin from the fish and the batter it's a right mess and your chips are cold.

you can get some decent meal deals from pizza places, which last us 3 meals.

£11.75 at ingleby toytown for fish & chips was under £7 before, just a rip off

It’s not a rip off, it’s just the rising costs of fresh fish, plus gas / elec costs.

I doubt the owners have whacked the prices up just to make themselves even more profit.

It’s why a lot of chippy owners have started to push pizzas and parmos more… cheaper ingredients. There’s just no money to be made in fish and chips unless you charge circa £10-12

It just an example of how lazy society has become, or some people i should say. When i was a kid we never had a “takeaway”, unless you class fish n chips as a takeaway. There weren’t such places in existence really - now they literally dominate the high street.

Wouldn't say lazy, it's just readily available and easier for some people.
I am a fantastic cook if I do say so myself, but even I am tempted now and again to get a takeaway. I do love cooking though.

This is why lots a companies are going out of business. Energy costs have gone up so much that it has to be passed onto through their prices. People cant/wont pay it so they go under.
