Switching to vegan for a picky eater.

Oh, and prepare to get absolutley slaggd off by peole when they find out you don;t eat meat......

I really think it's because you make them confront the fact that they do eat meat and all that is associated with that and that you not doing so is a reminder of their guilt, so they take it out on you

I suppose that some people just see it as silly really and react to the futility in your abstinence rather than any self reflection.

I love meat and wouldn't change that but admire anybody who has the self discipline to hold off anything. Be that booze, or foods.

That takes massive effort and is to be admired.

Each to their own 👍🏻

Well it is by my definition. I just don’t eat dead animals. I will have a bash at veganism at some point, even if it’s temporary.
Anything with eyes was how a girl I worked with explained it. She soon eat my Colin the Caterpillar cake. ;)

Like EBD, I also like meat too much to give it up but have cut it out of my diet by at least 50% and even more so after this thread linked below and the books recommended.

It is worth a look through.

You need to keep in mind the diet for which we’ve been adapted genetically
Not sure why that is relevant to the vegan community. Hospitals are full of non vegans who adopt a non vegan diet which they haven’t adapted to.

Ref OP - I’d take the view that if you want to do it for whatever reason just pile in. You will find a way.
If you really have a problem with vegetables tho - you may want to re think.

I don't eat a lot of meat but i realise your not saving animals by being a vegetarian/vegan because they are only bred if people eat them.
If we were all veggies the cows, pigs, hens, lambs etc that we slaughter now wouldn't be there.

I was a vegetarian for a year. Not eating meat was easy enough because I ate a lot of eggs - we had hens of our own, at that time.
What surprised me - though it is obvious to me now why it happened - is that I piled the weight on. Basically, I ate far too many carbs - bread, quinoa, rice.
I wanted to be vegan but I am such a tea hound that I have to have full cream milk in my cuppa. I would be very miserable without it, I'm afraid.

Going veggie or vegan is so much easier now than it used to be. The supermarket freezers are now awash with pretend meat substitutes. And anyone who tells you it's somehow 'unnatural' and that we are somehow 'meant to eat meat' is talking rollocks. Like Bungy, I've come across plenty of those who seem to get off on mocking you for it. It's their loss and a good indicator of the kind of person they are. Go for it.

"To the post, and prepare to get absolutley slaggd off by peole when they find out you don;t eat meat."

I find it strange that Meat eaters would " Slag you off " for making that choice ..

I tend to find it the other way round 😉

Yes I would second that.

What I’d also say is there is no need to eat any kind of chicken in breadcrumbs anymore, cos the “fake” stuff tastes exactly the same, even in a parmo.

The thing I often get is “I didn’t expect you to be a vegetarian!”

Why, cos I’m a bloke who likes football, beer and guitars? We are renowned meat eaters like. 🤣

They do, like. It tends to split into 2 camps. Some people try to take the p*ss, while others almost apologise for eating meat: "oh, we don't eat much meat...", not knowing that I don't give a chuff what they eat, it's just a personal choice for me.

I went vegan for a month last year just to see how it made my body feel really after watching The Game Changers on Netflix.

I ended up eating a lot of curries/chillis/spag bols. I.e. things that were sauce based. Mainly because I thought the vegan alternatives to meat were quite dry and tasteless. It was less noticeable in curries etc.'

I missed the cheese more than the meat over the month.

I never really got away with the soy or oat milk however my wife preferred it and has never reverted back to cows milk so I guess it's personal preference.

Thanks for all the advice guys! I realise it's gonna be a big life desicion but it's something I've been thinking about for a while! I'll give it a go on the new year when the stress of Christmas is over and done with and I'll have some discipline!
It's been great to see people so understanding of one another, Facebook is full of bile of people hahaing pictures of dead animals and commenting the most hideous things so it's nice to see so many on both sides of the fence being so respectful

If you expand your first sentence to ‘saving animals from an untimely and often painful death, usually proceeded by a horrifically stressful journey’, then you are getting closer. Those who are vegan for moral reasons fully accept we won’t have sheep (other than wool producers), cows and pigs in the countryside. A small price to pay.
