Feels like one of those moments at times that the stars are aligning ... re; Boro and our fortunes
It could be argued that Mogga's sides do have a record of weird drops in form, the wheels coming off after outstanding runs and all that. Maybe it could be happening or about to, anyway. Tonight was probably just a blip, Brereton only just returning, etc, but I thought they'd have at least ended up taking a point from that game vs ten men for the amount of time they had against them. Surely though, Brereton will return to his goalscoring run sooner than later and I still think they're either on course to pinch 2nd or 3rd on top of the top-six play-off pile.
All that said, I still think we are entirely capable of finishing above Blackburn, say we finish 2nd, they finish 3rd .. if we get it bang-on??
yer just never know, eh?? .... yer just don't.
Our limitations to improve on/strengthen in were massively exposed last night which is no real shock given the CL- level PL opposition at more or less full strength, it featured Ronaldo/Sancho/Fernandes/Pogba, and on and on... that lot who should currently, be doing a lot, a lot better than they are. We still came out of it victorious though, so who cares. To me, it just seemed to signal that things really are changing for the better here, we're getting the rub of the green, 3rd place would be an excellent target from now and I don't see why we can't manage it.
I'm delighted at what last night must have done to the dressing room, which is already in a great state. The mood around Rockliffe on Monday will be buzzing. Another shot in the arm to a side already on the up.
I can't remember the last time I've watched a Boro side go into ET in a big game like last nights', and then the shoot-out, looking so focused and the nerves were not visible. Taking the penalties, the lot. We looked like the home team. That's what Wilder's done, the confidence in the lot of them has shot up 1000% ... it's a shame Connolly couldn't take a penalty, but there's no way I'd have put him on the list after what we've seen of him so far .. that's a big job for CW if him signing is going to be successful in any way for the rest of the season.
Seems we're getting that bit of luck you need when you're in a position to go up. Last nights' 'handball' that was allowed leading to the equaliser, sh1t like that, we're fighting until the very last minute for all the points like at Blackpool the other week. That was the first time I'd seen that happen in God knows, how long?? Makes you think where we'd be right now if some of the shocking decisions that went against us earlier in the season hadn't happened .. games like when Dael Fry received a bad facial injury and all sorts you could bring up, had those games been officiated better, we'd be sitting in a very nice place right now.
Things just seem to be working out for us and it feels good. It feels good to see how confident we were in riding out last night's game, then in particular, the shoot-out. The away support was fantastic as always. Well done to the lot of 'em. Just awesome commitment.
It feels like a new Boro, one we've been waiting for, for far too long. And I'm buzzing.
Anyway, back to the league again.
All the best for the rest of the season to the whole squad and CW, and Boro fans everywhere. Have my fingers for a dramatic finish Xd
