Sunderland

On paper how many of their players get in our team? Clarke for sure. Other than him there’s not many you’d confidently say would.

The difference is they have a manager who adapts to what he’s got. Their starting line-up was decimated at the back end of last season, they still got in the play-offs and they still competed. They have lost their two best players in Diallo and Stewart, there was talk of Pritchard leaving, Clarke was desperate to leave. But they’ve just adapted and continue to win football managers.

We have a manger who’s a one trick pony, who was figured out by opposition managers months ago and is refusing to adapt to situation he finds himself in. He’s determined to stick to his way of playing as he still believes him and the team are “good at it” even though the form since April and the league table suggest the exact opposite.
In the midst of our dreadful run under mowbray - what was it 5 wins in a year - there was much critisicm on this board of mowbray for doing exactly what you are lionising him for here. Trying to counteract the opposition rather than playing to his team's strengths.

The biggest issue was the same as the one facing us now. Confidence.

Patterson, Ballard, Neil, Bellingham, Clarke, Roberts, Hume and Huggins all make our team right now.

Based on current form, I'd take their entire back four... Hume O'Nien Ballard Cirkin, and Neil would replace Howson/O'Brien as a CDM.

I'd keep Dieng over Patterson although it's probably 50/50, and I'd keep Forss/Jones and Hackney.

I'd take Bellingham, Clarke and Dack too.

Hume - O'Nien - Ballard - Cirkin
- - - - - Neil - - - Hackney - - - - -
- - Forss - - Dack - - Clarke - -

Based on the overall player/last season/previous seasons/hopefully when we improve... I'd put Lenihan, Fry and possibly O'Brien in.

Hume - Fry - - Lenihan - Cirkin

the disconected gormless jaw line of peter beardsley, the superciliary arch of the simian scouser wayne rooney, the fingertip forced fallacio crafted earlobes from our very own jamie pollock and an ice cold blue eyed
stare that hasn't a flipping clue what's going on.. the perfect footballer?
