Sunderland fans leaving games early

Even when they are top of the league.
The club are not happy.

We really aren't in any position to comment on this. My biggest pet hate with going to games at the Riverside.

Guy next to me left with 5mins of the Sheff Utd game to go. Game on a knife edge and you leave. Crazy

Enjoyed seeing how empty the Wolves end was when they got their 2nd at Brighton. Makes me smile when people miss late goals

Football clubs trying to control anything and everything. They want a light show, noisy sections, more and more pricing categories, more rules, don’t bring this in, you can’t bring your bottle of water in, no, you can’t bring your flag or that banner in, you can’t stand there or sit there or change a ticket, you can’t celebrate like that we want music on instead, and you can’t leave whenever you like either, we control that as well. Not just for away fans.

Fans can leave whenever they like. They always have and always will. I don’t do it personally, I like to stay to the bitter end of every single football match I go to, but some can’t wait to get away. Leave ‘em to it. It’s their choice.

You also get the rush of people coming in just before kick off, then having to constantly stand up or move over to let people past for the first ten minutes because they’ve been necking pints, then the same when they want a p*ss at half 3, then again 5-10mins later when it’s time for the half time beers. And then you repeat that in the second half. Let’s stop all of that as well. Just ban it. The team needs them in the stands, not necking pints in the concourse. This obsession with micromanaging everyone and everything. Dear god.

We probably have a similar fanbase in so much as a great deal of attendees travel from well outside the local vicinity and if parking isn't an issue then getting out of the area and back to your family in reasonable time will be.

There should be a new level of season ticket where if you stay until the bitter end, a trebuchet is wheeled onto the pitch and you are flung out of the stadium, landing three miles away at your car and able to dodge the congestion in the town centre.

I assumed people were just taking the mick because of rivalry, but it must be bad if the club themselves are trying to figure out why so many of their fans are leaving early every week.

Some people are just desperate to get as much beer into them as they can. The last home game a bloke in front of us came in p!ssed shouted abuse for 20 minutes then said I’m off for a pint and never came back.

This seems to be getting worse at the Riverside. Games when there is 1 goal in it or we are drawing and some parts of the ground empty. That's weird. If we are 2 or 3 down with a minute or 2 to go I can understand it.

It's more noticeable now we are seated. Back in the day I bet no one noticed.

As mentioned it does happen everywhere, people leaving early. I think the concern for Sunderland if the level of leavers, the sheer volume.

Sunderland do have a reputation for leaving early when things aren't going well, and it has been such a lean spell for them for many years, so maybe it has just become a habit for many.
