Summer of change?

Do you think this summer will be another summer of change? If we don’t go up then I expect:-

Greenwood: returns to Leeds. Won’t stay irrespective of whether we go up or not

McGree: will be sold. Rumours he wanted to go last summer. I can see him pushing for a move.

Howson: retire

Hackney: sold if a substantial offer comes in.

McNair: contract expires and will leave.

Ayling: returns to Leeds.

Djkensteel: can see us moving him on but I think that would be a mistake.

O’Brian: hopefully stays. Not seen the best of him.

Rogers: if we keep him until the summer I can see him pushing for a move to PL.

Colburn: potentially sent out on loan depending on signings.

UTB.

Greenwood: He can go back now. Not good enough
McGree: Stay put
Howson: 1 more year, but play a lot less.
Hackney: Stay and leave in the summer of 2025
McNair: Contract is up, leave, save a LOT on the wage bill
Ayling: Hopefully signs a 1 year deal
Dijksteel: Probably leave, doesn't get enough game time and can't be happy
O’Brien: Go back to Forest
Rogers: Will be gone in 2,3 days
Colburn: Will be in and around the first team next year

To add a couple more
Jamie Jones - Contract is up, he'll go
Hoppe - He'll go back to USA or some 2nd div EU side
Gilbert - Probably end up on loan somewhere

No I don’t.

2 or 3 positions still to fill (centre mid, striker) then just a case of replacing any possible outgoings - Dijksteel etc.

I think we’re already adequately replaced McNair and are well stocked at CB.

DF - Smith, VDB, Clarke, Fry, Ayling, Bangura, Lenihan, Engel, [8]
MF - Barlaser, Hackney, McGree, Jones, Howson, Azaz, Crooks, [7]

Not counting young lads Kavanagh, Bilongo, Hannah, Bridge, Nkrumah, Finch and any others who've been in and around the first team this year.

If thats anywhere near right and we let McNair, Dijksteel, Hoppe go, send O'Brien back and keep Ayling or whatever then i imagine 1 youngster will make the step up into the first team properly a Kavanagh or a Bridge. Let Jones leave and bring one of the GKs out on loan back in as 2nd choice and Glover drops to #3 and then look for a CM and a ST to start with.

It's 100% going to be, but it will be every season.

At least we have the goalkeeper spot sorted with Dieng, it only took 4 seasons.

Hope not too big an overhaul of personnel. We'll condemn ourselves to another slow start if we do.

Change of performance without change of personnel is possible.

I hope they decide to get quality rather than quantity, it's no good buying 7-8 players plus a few on loan, if only a couple of them are any good, we signed too many average players last summer

Leeds don't want him

maybe
Howson: retire
tough one that,, integral part of the team.. how do you replace howson? very much of the Barry Robson, Grant Leadbitter lineage..
Hackney: sold if a substantial offer comes in.
probabbly
McNair: contract expires and will leave.
he might even go this January
Ayling: returns to Leeds.
nah, off to pasture new
Djkensteel: can see us moving him on but I think that would be a mistake.
depends.. who knows who we might have lined up.. not sam curtis anyway
O’Brian: hopefully stays. Not seen the best of him.
I think he will.. defo not gonna stay at Forrest
Rogers: if we keep him until the summer I can see him pushing for a move to PL.
£10m in the next few days is my guess
Colburn: potentially sent out on loan depending on signings.
or his progress.. getting a few growth injuries i've heard.. bit more physical maturity and he is golden
no babies

Most summers can be expected to be chaotic if we are successful in our transfer policy of buying low risk youngsters, developing them for profit.

That means every summer SHOULD bring attention on the squad from other teams.

Them the rules bitches

I think unlike last summer the basis of a squad is already in place, meaning any signings would be to compliment what we already have, as opposed to starting again from scratch. I think of our key players only Hackney and Rogers won't be here by the start of next season. That's a strong place to start from.

If you listen to Ben Fosters podcast about the roles of goalkeepers - Brynn/Hemming won't come in as a #3.
#3 GKs have specific roles to play in training and off the field, which is why they're usually much older keepers with loads of experience.... Carson at City, Heaton at Utd, Jones at Boro...

Brynn will be loaned out to a top league 1/bottom championship team, with the potential of being Dieng's replacement at #1 long term.
Hemming will be sold.

Maybe add Howson to that list, if he retires ?
For me it makes O'Brien becoming permanent the no 1 priority.

The [3] meant the number of GK at the club, i imagined Glover going to that role and/or leaving the club for an older head perhaps and the young lad been Diengs back-up, playing in cups with the aim of being our long term replacement for Dieng in a few years.
I know both Brynn and Hemming have won awards whilst out on loan so they must have being doing well, I'm not up to date on if they're doing well now.

I haven't seen enough of O'Brien to say he's our no1 priority in the summer but that position definitely will be. I'm still shocked we didn't manage to keep hold of Mowatt.

If we hadn't of been so unlucky with injuries this season then the young lads wouldn't of been thrown in the deep end and would of been given time to integrate into the squad and develop. Hopefully next season the young players we bring in will be given the chance to grow and develop without the extra pressure. With the extra subs allowed now it allows clubs with a model like we are aiming for to give these young lads more game time without unbalancing the first team.

The problem was that they were thrown in from the start with a fully fit squad and more experienced players sat on the bench. Hence our abysmal start.

Does a Championship ever not have a summer of change?

Let's look at players who will likely be staying:

Dieng
Glover

Engel
Bangura
Clarke
Fry
Van Den Berg
Lenihan
Smith

Jones
Barlaser
Crooks
Azaz
Forss
Silvera

Coburn
Latte Lath

So that's 17 first team squad players, we may sell one or two for big amounts, allowing us to bring in another 5/6 players. Its not *THAT* much of an overhaul is it?
