People who watch TV with the subtitles on but are not hard of hearing.
What's this all about? I was in someone's house and they were doing that and l could not stop myself from reading the script. Including " laughter" "sound of a car horn " " loud music"
Surely this distracts from the visual part of the show.
Can anyone offer an explanation why people do this?

The “laughter” cue comes in handy for people watching Mrs Browns Boys

Same here, can't understand most of the dialogue. Been using subtitles on everything for years now.

TV speakers have got worse as the set has got thinner because there's not enough space for good size speakers. People try and fix it by buying a soundbar but if you get a cheap one then they aren't much better. A good quality soundbar or speaker system makes a huge difference.

I watch quite a bit with the subtitles on, but my hearing isn't great. I've learnt to ignore them unless I need them
