subbing a substitute

I notice Thomas Tuchel hauled off Calum Hudson-Odoi after 30 minutes of a second-half appearance v Southampton - not enough effort in 'counter-pressing' (whatever that is). Apparently the lad (some would say naturally) made his displeasure clear. What are people's opinions on that? Personally, I think doing that any pro is harsh, and to a player of his calibre and profile is a risky strategy. Tuchel can probably get away it with the fans because he's started well, but he'll have to employ some psychology with Odoi for sure.

Has a Boro manager ever subbed a sub for being cr*p I wonder?

It must've happened at the Boro, we've had that many **** players over the years :) I can't think of any instances though. The nearest I can get is a match I remember when Robbo made a triple sub in the 1st half.

Didn’t it happen to Beck away at Forest once? Don’t think it was due to injury either.
It definitely happened to Beck, but I don't know which game.
There's nothing wrong with it from a tactical sense or if the player isn't putting the effort in, but in some circumstances it's going to impact a player's confidence. Pulis did it with Jordan Rhodes this season

Do you not think that Tuchel is laying the law down and letting the players know who is in charge. Klopp did something similar to the Liverpool players (calling them out) when he first arrived and look at the response he got.

Chelsea won't be a soft touch under Tuchel.

This post has brought back a really weird Ayresome memory.
We signed a scottish winger called Tommy Wright n the 1990s.
Pre-season friendly he comes on as sub, then is subbed off.
Not the most auspicious start.
Anyone else remember this????

I don't remember that. He was a good player though for a while in that premier league season. He was absolutely awful after a long injury though. Was recently found guilty of accepting bribes in exchange for information on players at the club he was working for (maybe Bradford)

Sean Dyche did it with Robbie Brady on Wednesday night.

(Brady came on in 39th minute and got booked. Looked to be possibly heading for another booking in the second half, and got hoiked in the 64th minute).

I am absolutely certain that I have heard of this happening before but for the life of me I cannot remember the details. Mr Google is no help either.

I didn't think it was as much the subbing of a sub that was the issue in this case. It's the total honestly as to why.

He just completely threw him under the bus😂. I've never really heard a manager be so brutal (maybe Morinho).

That said if he's not doing what he was asked then get him off. I'm sure many 'pink and fluffy' folk will be takling about how it may effect him.

I can't remember what game it was but Roberts came on this season and about 3 times in as many minutes a player ran past him going the other way. I was expecting him to get hooked (I expect very much part of the reason we got rid)

Can't remember that but remember him scoring (twice?) when we beat current champions Leeds 4-1, opening game of the season.

I also think he was convicted for taking bribes, not too long ago!
