I would like to thank everyone involved in Stockton Calling for making it such a wonderful day. Great day great weather and some excellent music heard.
For a long while, stars of the day for me were The Headshrinkers who were like a more up-tempo Yard Act. They were brilliant. However the magnificent Bob Vylan pipped them at the post. He was the outstanding act amongst many great artists for me. I had not seen Walt Disco before but loved them in a full Georgian Theatre. HYYTS well they were just as HYYTS should be amazing.
A special mention for great sets from Shakin’ Nightmares who opened show(for me) and Stebee who is the lead singer/guitarist from Mouses. He played a wonderful solo set that just put a huge smile on the faces of everyone in The Green Room.
Disappointments for me were the obvious clashes and some venues being full so you couldn’t get in. So we missed Youth Sector whom I was told were excellent. Did not even try to get in for The Reytons who should have played a much bigger venue. The queue was massive even after they had started their set. We missed Retro Video Club who I heard were excellent but they clashed with Walt Disco and then we went to make sure of getting in for Bob Vylan. As it turns out we could have caught the end of RVC and still got in.
Musical disappointments for me were Frankie Beetlestone who were not really my cup of tea. Nothing at all wrong with him and he was going down well enough while I was still there. And I’m sorry to say Swim School left me a bit cold. Another band going down well with the audience but for me were just a bit “white rice”. Maybe I was expecting to much but after seeing similar female fronted bands this year in Coach Party and Francis of Delirium I just thought that Swim School were nowhere near as good as either.
Didn’t stay for Venus Grrls as a mate had arranged a lift back to Redcar
