Stevie Gibson is a red

He was originally Labour so obviously flip flops.

Just seen there’s another thread on this already, so that should be used not this one.

I'm all for people voting for whoever they want to, but to go from Labour councillor - Tory - Labour......it's almost 30p Lee-lite. Opportunism? 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Don't get it personally, but must have his reasons 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

I'm guessing a working class raised uber millionaire is probably conflicted in his thinking, trying to balance his roots with his current economic circumstances, not to mention his position in the local and global business communities.

That is a very well balanced view.

I think in this instance it’s personal rather than party politics. I suspect he knows as facts some of the things I’ve heard, but can’t repeat because there’s no independent verification.

Gibson calling him out puts the whole thing front and centre which is a good thing, I was concerned Houchen was getting a free ride. Hopefully labour win and there’s a proper investigation so the truth can come out.

Out of curiosity, how can one go from a Tory to Labour? Why support what they have done over the last 15 years? They've absolutely decimated this country
Not sure who you mean by 'they'. Tories have been in power last 14 years. Floating voters tend to 'float' from one party to another

The main thing is he's back home, There were lots of people who probably surprisingly found themselves voting Tory after Brexit and in the true Christian Socialist traditions of many in my party, they're forgiven! We all make mistakes. Steve Gibson has a good heart and has done wonders for the people of Teesside. The whole pro-Tory/smash this league interlude, call it a midlife crisis ;)

So there's people here who support a political party no matter what? Surely you vote depending on your circumstances and how a manifesto would benefit, you, your family, your community, your region and your country? That would surely be the sensible thing to do and probably what Gibbo has done.

He hasn't moved anywhere politically. He's just waited for Labour to move over to his side. He wanted nothing to do with the Labour that wanted to help people but the Labour that wants to put business first he can get on board with.

There is an old adage….
If you don’t vote Labour in your 20’s you have no heart
If you don’t vote Tory in your 40’s you have no brain

Explains the significant Tory vote in the elderly.

Largely referred to apocryphal nonsense that Labour will spend, spend, spend and tax your wealth (which you are more likely to have in your 40’s and beyond) to pay for it.

Maybe everyone should start following in Gibson's footsteps and vote for the candidate and policies regardless of the associated party.

Eg. I am not voting for Ben Houchen because he's a massive end bell, rather than I am not voting for Ben Houchen because he wears a blue tie.

I think it’s the opposite really. I’d vote for a bell end if I thought he represented what I thought was right. Surely lots of people did that re Boris.
