Steffen

I think sadly some people just don’t like him maybe based on that Liverpool goal I’d say most definitely but the bias is there.

His attempts to save the goals seem laboured and look like he’s given up half way through his dive. Even that second goal last night annoys me, it was headed towards the centre of the goal
would have been a worldie to save a free header and clean contact from 7 yards out. Yes he's there to make worldies but you can't expect him to make worldies every time.

Saying that he hasn't quite lived up to the "best keeper in the championship" billing yet. Put it down to change in environment and rustiness.

The first, he should have anticipated that Gayle was going to square it to Brown and got across the goal-line quicker. He should have been in a more central position. Lenihan had gotten across to Gayle so there was no chance he was going to take on the shot.
Is that a serious analysis? There is no way Brown should miss it, free shot from 14 yards and you're blaming the keeper?!
The 2nd goal, he should have sorted his feet out quicker so that he was in a standing position and able to make the save. The ball was hanging in the air a good while before Wright-Phillips got his head on it.
Can't really have that either, the ball was past him before he had time to react, but it should be the same for any championship keeper with a free header from 7 yards.

When he signed I questioned wether he was the right choice and was shot down in flames by people saying the fact he was Man City's player therefore he must be good.

Well, based on what we've seen so far he's not going to be goalkeeper of the year. Early days so let's give him a chance now he's here but have to say I'm not convinced.

And of course he was fouled for the disallowed goal.

Watch it back. Steffen should have seen that Brown was free in the box, and assumed that Gayle was going to square it to him. If he'd been in a more central position then Brown would have been forced to make a decision on what side of the goal to aim towards and may have fluffed his lines. He would have more than likely taken a touch and that may have even given Howson just enough time to get a foot in or at least put him off. As it was, he was able to place the ball into the right corner first time due to Steffens' positioning. There's every chance Brown would have still scored but Steffen made it even easier for him due to his positioning.

If a keeper makes that assumption, then Gayle slips it into the near post and everyone shouts that Steffen is rubbish because he doesn't guard his near post. I'm sorry but it can't be steffens fault.

Steffen has to watch the front post because if Lenihan can push Gayle wide he might have a snapshot at the near post. But Gayle squares it. He passed it at the perfect pace to give Steffen no time to get across the goal. Steffen had to come out as well as get across to have any chance of a save.

But in the quarter of a second from Gayle's pass to Brown's first time finish, there is simply no way Steffen can get across. Yes Steffen would like to be two foot to his left, but the pace of the pass from Gayle makes that impossible

He needs to man up a bit for this league. Not sure how he ended up at City based on what I've seen thus far.

Gayle put his forearm in his face. It was clearly a foul as Gayle apologised and checked he was alright.

I like his distribution, its getting better and should have had an assist last night.

Im gonna stick my neck out and say he's gonna be a success and at the end of season we will want to sign him but be unable to afford him.
