Did anyone go - obviously a fair few of us were at Leeds.
But there is an ambitious programme booked - open 7 days a week.

Lots of live entertainment right through to New Year's Eve party

I actually passed just as it was opening as I had a meeting at Exchange Square.
Seemed to be a steady stream of people going in at 5pm.
Was tempted to pop in but had to get back for young uns training

I went to the one in Newcastle on Saturday as we went to Newcastle for our works do.

I really liked the general vibe, and the live music acts they had on were really good.

I was a little underwhelmed by the food. I was expecting a really authentic street food type vibe, but that didn’t really come across with the options.

It felt like there were a lot of established food vendors rather than start ups. Couple of burger places, Thai, Pizza, Greek and a few others. I know the 3-4 of the Newcastle Vendors are set up in Boro.

A few of us ended up getting burgers from a “smoke house” type place, but as far as I could see, there was no smoker in sight so assume these places cook some stuff off site (slow cooked / pulled meats etc.) and deliver in. Totally understand there’ll be logistical issues with space etc. so that’s probably why.

The food was still decent though and much better than your bog standard pub burgers or McDonalds. I had brisket burger topped with pulled brisket. It was a 7.5/10 I’d say.

I hope the Middlesbrough one takes off but I do worry about the longevity and demand being there, especially during the week.

It should be a good match day addition though, and will hopefully get a chance to pop in this weekend if it’s not too rammed.

My main concern for Saturday was how cold it’d be but no issues at all. Probably helped by the volume of people but those big heaters they have at the side of the tables work very well. I was getting too hot in the end!

Live music on all day every day is an interesting one.

Playing the 1pm til 3pm slot on a Tuesday afternoon must be a bit of a lonely gig sometimes

The food vendors are pretty much the same as Seaburn and St. James except Seaburn has a chippy in it

Unless that is lunch break time at the college - Basecamp used to get a lot of youngsters coming over lunch time and in warmer weather a lot would gather in Exchange Square to eat their food. With the market they may well wander over for the food etc but also to be entertained.

I sincerely wish it every success. Heaven knows, the town needs a bit of positivity energy. I just hope this doesn't have an negative impact on Bedford & Baker Street.

Middlesbrough overall has got try and attract new customers and increase footfall across the whole town.

That’s a big challenge. That end of town is a bit busier on Match days now. The Honky Tonk bar seems to be a decent addition. We pop in there pre/post match. That was opened in the hope they’d get passing trade from Stack.

All of these things will invariably affect other areas if you’re just attracting the same population of people though. Hopefully it’s something that can benefit everyone and get more footfall into the town.

Do you know anyone doing well in Bedford and Baker Street ? I see positive social media comments but it only seems busy 1 day a month

I would like to be the first to congratulate Robert on his arrival into proper old age, with his use of the word 'youngsters'. Splendid work!

Me and my mate popped in on Tuesday just before setting off for Leeds.

It was a nice little place, good atmosphere and the live music was good. Only got one pint (Cruzcampo) and that was £5.10 which I thought was reasonable, didn't get any food as we didnt have time.

Obviously it was way smaller that the old one at Newcastle and the one outside SJP but i can see it doing well.

One downside on the opening day was that the toilets werent working and everyone had to use one disabled toilet which could create large queues. Not sure if they have been fixed yet but you would like to think so!

Is it just in the area the royal exchange occupied? I thought it would take up most of exchange square
