Sports the England aren't as good at as they should be

The problem for us with the hobby horsing is that Quidditch tempts away many of our most promising youngsters coming through I imagine.

Beat me to it, won one World Cup at home thanks to one two favourable decisions, despite having more professional players than most and a game awash with money….even tiny Uruguay have a better record than England and Denmark a better Euro record.

Pretty much every major sport.

You see I actually think this is a huge myth, and particularly this century England, well the UK essentially have massively overachieved in Sport.
Top 4 at 3 or 4 different Olympics ahead of basically every country in Europe. World Champions 3 times at different forms of Cricket. World Champions at Rugby. Two or three Tour De France winners. Champions in Golf, Boxing, Tennis and Athletics. Finalists at the last Football Euros for the Men, winners of the last Euros for the Women. Multiple English Champions League winning teams, more different teams than any other country. Plus all them sports what lazy gets like me can play like Snooker Darts and the massively popular Billiards.....
Not bad for a liccle island in the middle of the Atlantic!

Poor wording on my part, but I assumed the question meant team sports at international level, not club sports, athletics or individuals sports.
We've got plenty of great individual athletes and have obviously been brilliant at the Olympics for the last 20 years, though plenty of Great Britain's athletes aren't from England.
Club football doesn't really count given the majority of players and coaching staff won't be English in the last 30 years of success.

We've won the Rugby Union World Cup once out of 10 and very few major countries compete in it.

We've won one Cricket World Cup out of 15, and two T20 World Cups out of 12, another sport that very few major countries compete seriously in.

We've competed in 18 FIFA World Cups, including 3 we failed to qualify for, only winning once 57 years ago,
We've competed in 15 European Championships campaigns, failing to win any of them and failing to qualify in 5 of them.
All whilst being one of the richest, most relevant and most populous nations that are serious participants in the sport.

I wouldn’t say that's overachieving at all.

It's a pet peeve on my part, but we're also not part of a little island, Great Britain is the 9th largest island in the world.
We're actually part of a very big island, just not a very big country.

You surely can’t claim Champions League success for England!
