Spike Armstrong - A record that most likely never beaten

Yes, in these days of squad rotation I cant see anybody approaching that, unless they are like Messi or Ronaldo and even they are rested for smaller cup games

a bit before my time, but my old man says he is the greatest ever player to wear a Boro shirt, bearing in mind he has seen in his time Souness, Juninho and Ravanelli 😮…tells me he also could have been one of England’s greatest, and would have got more international caps if playing for a ‘big’ team 👍🏻

Was thinking other day about modern day thing to providr stats ...how many assists spike would have made in a typical season.

Great player and for someone his size he had great leap in him. He could out jump players a lot taller than him .

It has crippled him, though. He played when sometimes he shouldnt have. As did a lot of players. It think he has had both knees replaced or something as gruesome.

Its the fact that its 305 CONSECUTIVE games that stands out - I can't see any top flight player ever getting near to that figure nowadays , possibly a league 2 (4th division in reality) player might but highly unlikely.
Spike had one of the best left pegs I've seen and , for his height, he could out jump many defenders - a extraordinary talent and a privilege to watch him turn out for The Boro

100 would see you in the Premier League top 10 of all time, it's just not done with the squads now.

305 on the bounce, ..... he was always playing, mr consistancy, sweet left foot, tad flat footed run, and not one to crunch into a tackle... I loved him , worked great with Terry Cooper on the left side as well, deffo in my top 5 Boro favs , Souness, Maddren, McIlmoyle, Big John and then Armstrong.....
