Bears get season underway!

Redcar Agilia Bears will take to the track this weekend, 579 days after their last memorable meeting against Newcastle in the KO Cup in October 2019. They make the journey north to face Edinburgh Monarchs at Armadale on Friday (7:30pm start), before the return meeting at the Media Prima Arena on Sunday (2pm start).

It’s been a long wait for promotion, riders and fans alike, but that wait is now almost over!
It’s a slightly different line up to one the Bears had intended to use in 2020. Erik Riss, Kasper Anderson and Joe Lawlor all miss out, and have been replaced by Jake Allen, Anders Rowe and James Sarjeant. Bears co-promoter and team manager Jade Mudgway admits it has been a tough winter:
“It was a massive blow when we couldn’t bring the 2020 side back to Redcar, but I think we have just as good, if not better, a side this year. It has been an extremely hard winter, and has taken a lot of patience to bring this side to the Media Prima Arena. I hope the fans are as excited as I am!”
It does certainly have the look of a strong side, spearheaded by 2019 British Champion Charles Wright. He will form what looks to be a powerful heat leader trio with Michael Palm Toft and Jake Allen. Returning Aussie star Jordan Stewart returns at number 4, with man of the moment Anders Rowe, scoring well for Ipswich in the Premiership, comes in at number 2. Ex-Monarch James Sarjeant will ride at number 6 with rising star Jordan Jenkins completing the team at number 7.
The Monarchs always build strong teams, and this year is no exception. They are led by Aussie star Sam Masters, and his clashes with Charles Wright are heats to look forward to! Richie Worrall and Josh Pickering complete the heatleaders for the Scottish side. The middle order contains 2019 Bear Nathan Greaves alongside newcomer to British speedway Kye Thomson. At reserve is William Lawson, with rising star Joe Lawlor (due to ride for the Bears in 2020) finishing off the team.
It promises to be two exciting clashes, and a superb way to get the 2021 season up and running!
Tickets for the away meeting have now sold out, although Live Streaming of the meeting can be purchased at https://www.edinburghmonarchs.co.uk/emtv/live/sOXmU6J11
Tickets for the home meeting on Sunday can be purchased at http://www.redcar-speedway.com/tickets/
Lineups for both meetings:
Redcar: Charles Wright, Anders Rowe, Michael Palm Toft, Jordan Stewart, Jake Allen, James Sarjeant, Jordan Jenkins
Edinburgh: Sam Masters, Nathan Greaves, Kye Thomson, Josh Pickering, Richie Worrall, Joe Lawlor, William Lawson

Looking forward to it.

Bears look like a strong team this year and with a bit of luck might win some silverware.

I love that pic of Courtney, such a unique style on the bike - can remember trying to do a copy of it in my Speedway scrapbook at the time.

Won the league by beating Newcastle in front of a massive crowd. Ridiculously strong team, I think Bernie Collier was averaging over 6 at reserve and Pusey scored a maximum (I think) from the other reserve spot.

Wilcock still my favourite ever Tigers rider, although Dicko is up there too. Hope he recovers soon.

Well I was close on Bernie Collier :)

Reserves averaging nearly 7 and over 5 is quite something and a combined team average of nearly 55 is just amazing.

Is Gary Havelock still around?

Think he was Brian's son? Really good rider.

That's,when speedway was big, Peter Collins and Michael Lee.

Also some amazing Scandanavian riders

Yes, he's doing some Team manager duties for Poole this year. Retired through injury and don't think he's got full use of his arm back yet.

Actually watched it - a speedway match streamed on pay per view, very 21st century for Speedway.

Excellent 2 points for the Bears at one of our least successful tracks in the past.
