Spanishman: Real Jaén contra El Ejido

What do you think about this???View attachment 4937
I knew they were in the play offs. I think I saw the had won their first match. Did not spot who they were going to play.

Great to see my most local team with a chance of promotion. After they were relegated (a couple of divisions I think) a number of years ago.

They had to form the club again. All due to a significant financial issue.

I do not want to go into too much detail here. As I think there is ongoing legal action. All I will say is that it was associated with El Ejido council.

Fingers crossed. May the best team win.

Real Jaén have had loads of financial problems too - a common theme here in Andalucia??? - and even now the fans protest against the owner every match, well, they did before the lockdown. They are by far the biggest club in their division. The stadium holds 12,000 and they get 3,000 or more every match whereas the other teams in that division are getting crowds in the 100s in stadiums of a couple of thousand.

I know nothing about El Ejido but a friend of mine tells me that they are a better team than Jaén. Lets see what happens.

A year ago tomorrow I went to see El Ejido play a pre-season friendly against UD Almería. They played well. Ended up losing 1-0 against a team a couple of divisions above them.

I would like them to win. However it is not with a passion.

A bigger thing for me is UD Almería putting in a good performance and winning against Málaga tonight. To put us in a good mood for the La Liga 2 playoffs. Keeping our 3rd place status is also very important because:

This is a dodgy English description of what happens off Wiki:

"2011–present
For the 2010–11 season, the Segunda División adopted the Football League play-offs format. While the two first qualified teams were directly promoted to La Liga's next season, teams qualified between third and sixth would take part in the play-offs. If a reserve team qualifies in one of these positions, its spot will be transferred to the next best qualified.

"Fifth placed faces against the fourth, while the sixth positioned team faces against the third. The final is also two-legged. The best positioned team always plays at home on the second leg.

Since the second edition, a new rule was established: in case of a tied eliminatory there were extra time, once finished it, this season (2011) introduced that there would not be penalty shoot-out and the winner would be the best positioned team."

So if we end up 3rd then were to be tied after extra time in the play off final we would be promoted.

Also, what is interesting is that promotion is different when comparing La Liga 2 and the championship.

Here if there is a tie in points between teams looking for direct promotion the first method of selection is not goal difference. It is how the teams performed against each other. If they are still tied then goal difference is taken into account.

I know that for the rest of the league positions (except the relegation places) goal difference is used to separate teams. I have not had to look at the rules of how La Liga 2 relegation works. Maybe @Malaguena might be able to tell us more about this.

Updated to include a link to Malaguena following a tip I saw on here the other day. Very useful.

I have no interest in the rules of relegation from Liga 2 ;)

How does this linky thing work then ? - was i supposed to get some sort of notification ?

Oh so true !

Your owners aren't "dubious" Sheikhs are they ? ..... ours is still trying to get control back, whilst at the same time being chased by the court appointed administrator (not in the UK "administration" sense) for the multi-millions they've siphoned off over the last few years

Edit - Allegedly :censored:

Good question. I just remember seeing somewhere on here recently that you can @ someone. My guess is that we both have notifications for that turned off. As we probably turned off all notifications when we were getting loads of emails after first joining. I will have a little look around and see whether I can work it out.

I've certainly got everything turned off that can be turned off !

Test @spanishman

UPDATED: Just to see whether I get an alert when I am mentioned in a post. The alerts part of my profile says I should. As all items are ticked. Maybe it is something that runs in batch every so often. Rather than generates it straight away?

UPDATED 2: I received no alert. So I have raised this issue under the Feedback thread. To see whether there is something I am not understanding. Or whether this alert function is switched off for some reason.

@Malaguena - suggest you check your alert preferences in your profile.

My test to myself failed as I guess it does not generate an alert back to yourself. If you let me know when you have changed your alert settings (if you want to). I will do a test here.

I’ve updated my profile to be notified when someone “mentions me in a profile post or comment” which seems the most likely setting to change

Commiserations on tonight - I see you’ve got Girona (in the play-offs now which I would say is the worst possible outcome !

I see Cadiz blew the Championship and got overtaken by Huesca

Also see Deportivo are relegated despite their match being postponed - unless they win it by something like 18 goals - them and Racing Santander down - how the mighty have fallen. Any idea why Deportivo’s match was called off ?

Update - 6 Fuenlabrada players tested positive for Covid 😳

EDIT - “I see you’ve got Girona (in the play-offs now which I would say is the worst possible outcome !“

And this is where the Deportivo postponement makes it interesting - if Fuenlabrada win the rearranged match, it will be them you’ll be playing not Girona ...... but as 6 players have tested positive for Covid, when is that likely to be played ?

Delayed play-offs ?

@Malaguena I went straight to bed last night after the match. I did not see the news about the postponement until this morning.

Interesting times.

The championship with possible points deductions. La Liga 2 with coronavirus.

I see you used the linky thing again - I haven’t received any notification though

Back to the footy for a moment.

Do either of you watch a lot? If so how? I´d like to watch a bit but don´t want to pay - I´m finding that I´m happy just reading reports fan reactions on FMTTM. I keep an eye on twitter as well while we are playing.

Do you go back often and ever go to a match? For me I go 3 or 4 times per year but have only been to one match since I moved to Spain which is 5 years as of yesterday.

What about Spanish football? Ever been to see any live?
