Bobby Murdoch was in the same class but was er, somewhat past his best fitness wise when he came to us. [IIRC]

True, but it didn't matter. He strolled around the pitch like he owned it, and was always in space. How the hell does a rather 'rotund' (I'm being kind there) guy do that? One of the classiest 2 or 3 players I've ever seen in a red shirt - he was an absolute revelation, and cost nothing. That team was simply amazing.
