Fifteen people have been taken to hospital after a minibus carrying South Shields fans overturned.
National Highways confirmed that there had been a 'serious collision' on Saturday involving an overturned vehicle which closed the A1 near Darrington in Yorkshire on Saturday evening. A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said there were numerous people on board the minibus and confirmed 15 people had been injured and taken to different hospitals in the area.
The road was closed in both directions, before the southbound carriageway reopened. Tailbacks reached several miles, despite diversion routes being put in place.
