So who's in next? How do we become promotion material?

We have about £15 million to spend and we need a minimum of two or 3 way better strikers than we have, so that rules out just one expensive one and two extra loanees unless the loanees are the real deal, any suggestions? It still feels like we are missing something a bit stronger in midfield, does that mean Tav can go, he doesn't have tatical nounce sometimes, when he left a grand canyon opening in midfield against chelsea comes to mind, can we get 10 million add it to the striker pot and replace him? Yesterday was a friendly but it also seemed to bring up last season's failings as well, minus goalie errors.

We have 14 first team players. We need about 8/10 players. We lurch from loan to loan and have been bailed out by a player sale. We spend then give away each year. To become promotion material you need to put an end to this and the recruitment team. Back the manager.

I fully agree with this - I think we are miles short and if we are serious about promotion we arguably need to bring in at least 4 automatic starters in less than a fortnight.

Look at the players we have last since last season finished, I can’t be bothered working it out right now but we have only brought 4 players in to replace everyone who left last season, which everybody agreed at the time was a squad well short of required quality.

The other concern is what will Wilder be making of all this? He was clearly made assurances over our transfer activity i can’t for one minute imagine it included having only Coburn and Watmore as strikers at the club 2 weeks before the season starts.

I don’t want to be negative but an awful lot needs doing in a short space of time or we risk being left behind at the start of the season.

The reason why I got a season ticket was I bought into then post season bull s*it about getting marquee players in for the next season along with the cup run there was a good feel about the club. I know it’s quite shallow but fcuk it, I dont have much cash to spare for me and my daughter to go, but I managed to get tickets for us both next year The feeling was similar to the season when monk came in (not the players signed just the feel factor)

I’m looking forward to getting back into the match day carry on etc but I sometimes think I’m a mug by being conned into it all again.

Same sh^te pre season, we’re getting x players in when in reality we’re not.

If we never had the Spence sale
Surely we’d have had money to spend anyway?

Sometimes I’m happy to have a genuine squad with local young lads in and not expect to do anything but when people mention promotion we literally need to spend quite a lot of money. The only positive thing for us I think at the moment is the lack of transfer activity with other clubs so our squad isn’t that bad apart from our forwards.

Maybe it’s a first season for me since the Europe days and I’m just presuming we’re getting players in, when in reality it’s nothing like that.

Anyhow looking forward to the season, whoever we bring in (if we do) get behind them. But don’t expect too much. I’ll echo what 100% of the fans in here say. We need forwards in… but if not just get behind the plan.

I feel when Wilder said what he said, he believed it. He will of been promised all sorts as other managers have. The tensions are showing in his interviews already. He’s waking up to the reality of how Bausor and Gibbo operate.

Realistically, we know the best (and therefore also the worst) business will be done after the start of the season as teams start to feel the pressure.

We have a bigger budget than most, but we'll still have to get value to compete with the parachute payment clubs.

There's a myth that getting players in early is important, but that's really just fans needing convincing that anyone is actually coming in.

The eventual league winners will sign players in August, and again in January.

We have bought 3 players in who are better quality than what we had, so a positive, possibly the Man city GK is joining soon so that is 4, the two names who have been mention at RwB are better than the backup we had last year, so we are up to 5. We need possibly 3 strikers, I feel after the Spence move it is the key obstruction that is gone and we have some money, I fully expect 3 strikers so 8 players and if Tav goes for the money mentioned then I expect us to replace him for less money and maybe the striker pot will be that bit bigger.

Taviernier

Just been reading another thread which highlighted his tackles and assists which made him the only player in the championship to be in the top ten for both, but is he the real deal,? Maybe a goalscorer is what our exceptional wiingbacks need?

Agree at the season ticket prices boro charge we should be aiming to win the league is the reality of it

I'm torn at the moment. I'd mentioned recently that I've been becoming more and more frustrated and concerned due to our lack of transfer activity.

On one hand, looking at it positively, if we do go on to sign Steffan and Smith it will mean we've signed 5 players without having to spend a penny on transfer fees. I'd said before the start of pre-season that we'd probably need to bring in 10 new players at least, and if we end up half-way from doing that whilst not spending anything on transfer fees then great. It may then mean we are in a position to be able to afford to spend big and bring in the likes of Greaves and Gyokeres.

Equally though, we've missed out on a lot of linked players. We don't always know whether there is any truth behind the links or not, but I'd say most of the time there is.

It's frustrating that yet again we're being linked to players and they're choosing to sign for other Championship clubs. Ciaran Clark is a recent example. Think he would have been a very sensible signing and we've been linked with him for a while, so I was disappointed to find out he'd signed for Sheff Utd.

It will be interesting to see what happens now that we have the Spence money. I'd like to think a few quality additions will be brought in. Still think Armstrong is our man but I accept we will have to wait until Southampton have signed a striker before we can make a move.

I recently read on Twitter-sphere that the magazine 4-4-2 have predicted Boro to win the league next season. If it is not a very good case of photo-shopping, (as some have suggested), then perhaps they know something about who we might be signing; for them to make such an ambitious prognosis.

Roberts a league two keeper and Leinahan our only two permanent signings.

Lurching from loan to loan.

Giving away players we signed for millions, every deal a loss.

We can barely name a bench. Two weeks to go.

442?!? The journalists/ feature writers at 442 are lads who love playing FPL and collect panini stickers. Id take anything they predict with a massive dose of salts.

Steffen/Roberts

Giles/Bola

Crooks/???
Tav/Mcgree

So this the state of play. This is what I think turns us into promotion contenders

Hamza Chodhury - Loan with an Obligation to buy if we are promoted
Ben Davies - Permanent signing from Liverpool £2.5- £4 million
Aaron Mooy - Free Transfer
Ryan Nyambe - Free Transfer (Can Cover RWB and both CB positions)
Rodrigo Muniz - Fulham - Loan
Viktor Gyorkeres - £8 million -£9 million + Add ons
Jordan Rhodes - £500k - £1 million (Controversial but we clearly want a Wiley veteran center forward)

That leaves us

Steffen/Roberts
Jones/Smith
Dijksteel/McNair
Davies/Nyambe
Giles/Bola
Howson/Choudhury
Crooks/Mooy
Tav/Mcgree
Gyorkeres/Muniz/Rhodes/Watmore/Coburn

In my opinion, that team under Chris Wilder could get play offs at a minimum
