So it wasnt the lurgy...

I'm still breathing, thanks for asking. Still in hospital waiting for the doctors to decide what to do with me. Vital stats seem to be stable and in a good place. Have had my parents to visit. The company I work for don't seem to give a toss.

At least they didn't prevent them.

I felt crap on Sunday, thought it was just the lurgy. Heart had been going fast, but settled down. Monday I rang work and they said to get a PCR test. I was all set to go but then my heart rate rocketed and I felt awful with chest pains and breathlessness. Rang ambulance and am now in hospital in Norwich contemplating the distinct possibility of heart bypass surgery. I've got Bob Mortimer's book on Kindle now and am reading all about his bypass in amongst his hilarious and touching life story. Kind of scary but I guess needs must.

Guys, take it from me: don't take your health for granted. Don't ignore warnings.

Hope that everything works out well for you and that you're well soon.

Over the years of your postings, you have saved me endless hours of replying to threads.

Living here in Oz and always nine or ten hours behind the conversations that take place on fmttm , I " always " found that after
reading your thoughts, opinions and replies on all subjects or matters, that there was absolutely no need for me to post anything in addition.
You had said it all for me.
Thank you and the very best wishes from Oz and look forward to many more years of your contributions.

Thanks, means a lot.

So it's definitely the bypass. They're keeping me here in Norwich until there is a slot available at Royal Papworth in Cambridge. Probably a few weeks to wait, which ain't ideal but there you go. Que sera sera.

You are probably aware but in case you are not, Royal Papworth really is one of the leading cardio hospitals in the world. You’ll be in fantastic hands there!
Prince Phillip had a stent procedure done there, and they don’t send those dossers to any old hospital.…

Best of luck with the op Jimmy. Hopefully you come out a new man. My dad loves the take heart classes and still goes 28 years after his bypass, the old fraud.

I'd take 28 years more years right now!

I've got private medical insurance with my job and am wondering if it would make any difference in terms of speed of getting in and possible after care. Bit torn with it, don't want to be seen to jump a queue but I would imagine my company will want me back ASAP.

You wouldn't jump the queue I dont think. My dad needed a double bypass and a tumor removed from one of the chambers in his heart. He was in James Cook for about a month after being brought back to life. He died riding his bike to work. His wait was because they had him stabalised and they considered him not to be in immediate danger. emergency heart ops came in and they were prioritised. One night he was pre-oped and they still stuck him back on the ward.

They prioritised people based on their likelihood to die, not money.

If I look at it a different way it works: I'm not jumping the queue, I'm using a perk and freeing up a space for someone who doesn't have private insurance.
