So if we have to sell one player in the summer...

The thing is with Forss…

He scored 10 goals for Brentford in their promotion season.

We signed him for £2m, and he’s scored 10 goals and 7 goals in his two seasons here. So I’m not sure his transfer value has suddenly trebled or whatever.

I’d be surprised if clubs were looking to spend that sort of money on him

None of the above - McGree i could cope with but the rest are vital
Yeah my thoughts too. We really need to keep Dieng, RVDB, ELL and Hackney and have them as the spine of the team, at least for just one more season. If we lose just one of them I'll be really disappointed. But money talks of course.

McGree and Barlaser can go for me, won't be tons of cash but we should be OK financially this close season I think(?). Silvera out on loan.
Deffo need a striker, probably a left back (I really want Engel to work out but just don't think he will) and another central midfielder. All could be loans and shouldn't break the bank

He scored 7 goals for Brentford in their promotion season 2020-21, with 1 assist, in 39 league appearances (only 9 starts)

In 2021-22 he got 1 league goal and 1 assist in 11 Championship appearances for Hull (only 5 starts)
He also got 1 assist in his 7 PL appearances for Brentford.

We then paid over £3m for him.

Last season he scored 10 league goals and made 5 assists in his 38 league matches (21 starts) He was excellent from Carrick arriving with 9 league goals and 5 assists in his last 23 appearances at RW.

I don't see how anybody could not see his value having grown last season.
This season in a poorer team, struggling with injuries and injured himself, he still has 7 goals and 2 assists in 21 league appearances.

The lad is a good player and has to be worth more than £3m.

I'd rather him start than Jones.

Does it??

We only need 3 or 4 signings I think
Ayling, Greenwood, Thomas and O’Brien will all return, although we might look to sign all of them.

Hackney, Forss, McGree, Dieng and Glover could all leave, as has been speculated, not to mention McNair is out of contract. Dijksteel will be off too.

Howson will probably be offered another year but no guarantee he’ll accept if he gets a better offer elsewhere.

Then there’s the likes of Silvera and Gilbert who need to go out on loan. And maybe Coburn.

There could be a lot of outgoings, and we still need to replace Crooks and Rogers.

Do we need to replace Crooks and Rogers? I'd argue Azaz was Rogers replacement and Crooks was surplus to requirements anyway. He was probably 3rd choice AM before he left, a position we don't really need three options for.

Azaz was signed before there was even any interest in Rogers.

Kieran Scott confirmed that the first time there was any hint of interest from Aston Villa was after we'd played them in the FA Cup.

We signed Finn Azaz the day before that match.

We need 6 good quality players to play the 3 positions behind the striker. Maybe 7.

Not "Back-ups". 6 or 7 players who can all contribute so they provide genuine competition and proper cover. These are the positions where we need match winners with options off the bench. I feel like the some of these players should be flexible in where they play in terms of Left, Centre and Right. There's been too many games this season where it just feel like we've no quality coming off the bench. Partly because of injuries but partly because our squad players aren't inspiring.

Last season we had:

Akpom
McGree
Forss
Watmore / Ramsey (Loan)
Crooks
Jones

We've currently got

McGree
Forss
Jones
Azaz
Greenwood (Loan)
Silvera
Gilbert

Obviously there is a lack of quality and depth there.
I wouldn't bother with Greenwood and look to either sell or loan out Silvera and Gilbert. That makes space for three players. If McGree or Forss leave, they need replacing too.

Hackney is the long term replacement for Howson. In the early years Howson was an attacking midfielder. Hackney has proved at England U21 level that he can play that role in the Premier League. He should be our future. If O’Brien or a new defensive midfielder is alongside him (and he, hopefully isn’t injury prone) then we will have the best midfield in the Championship next year.

Juninho Bacuna /Danny Armstrong / Tyrese Dolan / Callum O’hare / Sorba Thomas / Kaly Sene / Milos Pantevic / Aleksander Cirkovic / Igor Miladinovic / Harvey Knibbs / Femi Azeez / Kwame Poku / Max Dean / Paul Glatzel / Pavel Sulc .
Take your pick .

Juninho bacuna? Not sure he’s any good at all. I’d have Azeez just to hear maddo struggle with him and Azaz in the same sentence

I agree, I think we've improved the depth in those positions (something which massively stood out last season, albeit injuries weren't really an issue).

A lot depends on how Silvera and Gilbert are viewed. My hunch is that one will remain as backup IF (L) next year, and one will be loaned out.

We'll probably be looking at:

McGree
Silvera

Azaz
[A.N. Other]

Jones
Forss

Obviously providing no one else departs - minimum 1 x No 10 and potentially a IF (L)

43 games 9 goals 6 assists in a poor team . Ever present who scores and assists , can play LW RW AM . We should be all over him IMO . Age 26 with bags of experience. £3m or less

sort of sacrilegious unless he agrees to a name change EG Dave Bacuna would be fine

McGree seem the obvious candidate to sell.
I do rate him; currently by far our best option on the left. However, if he wants to move on there's no point in keeping him. Not sure how much he'd bring in though; the clubs who might be interested in him don't have too much money to spend. Someone make a YouTube compilation of his best goals ASAP: that always knocks the price up.

However, I'd say that for anyone: if ELL was stamping his feet to go to a PL club, well I'd be be gutted, and I'd want a big, big fee, but I'd still see it as pointless to keep a player who doesn't want to be here.

I wouldn't want to lose Forss either because I do rate him. He signed a 4 year contract in 2022, so he has 2 years left after this, so I see no need to sell on that basis. It may be that he an Carrick can't agree where he should play, in which case sticking to my above principle, I'd say let's listen to offers.

If we’re going the buy young/cheap, develop and sell model then Hackney is the one who should go. Only Hackney or RVB are coming to command enough of a fee to bring in 3 or 4 good young prospects and have change leftover. If Mcgree goes we're not going to get his full worth with only one year on his contract.

I think it depends on who we have an eye on to come in.

I can't believe Hackney's value is anywhere near what people are quoting after a relatively poor injury ravaged season. I still believe he will end up a top class prem player - but I doubt we would get anything much for him this summer.

I think we should be moving as little as possible - aim to progress within with added coaching/experience in the players we have.

With no sales - if we are aiming for 2 decent players for every position.

We need at least 1 rb, at least 1 cm, and at least 1 player to play in the 3 behind the striker.

Then it should be young prospects to fill out the squad/challenge for places.

Back our coaches to find growth in our young players VDB, Hackney, Engel, Bangura, Coburn, Silvera, Gilbert, Azaz.

Faith in the players coming into their prime years.. McGree, Jones, Lath, Lenihan/Clarke/Fry, Forss.

Avoid the bad start of previous seasons by having mostly players that know the system. Only sell if Rogers like fees. And integrate the new players gradually.
