This example is precisely why we shouldn’t let them tear down monuments to our industrial past until the foundation stones for the super future technologies employing thousands are laid. When it’s all gone there will be the usual bluster and bullsh*t and an announcement of a few two bob factory units employing a few dozen on minimum wage!

My frustration with this, and I wanted it to succeed, is that it was used as an excuse to not carry out a feasibility study into my work on a large multi purpose Arena with a projected cost of just over £30M. MBC took the view five years ago that it did not have the capability to facilitate both and preferred to spend money on the Snow Centre. Now we've got nowt!

Some madness in the wind around our council leaders. Investing time and money into a skyscraper that made no sense at all, ever, as well as a snow centre based on visitor and revenuecprojections that were higher than their mad skyscraper. Gormless wild goose chase by MBC. Most folk with half of a wit could see that.

File alongside Kerplunk Towers and the Middlehaven Super Casino.
Never mind that - after 25 years we still haven't a decent path leading from the dock to the College car park

And the Oil Refinery to be built on Wilton bringing hundreds of jobs. Never got off the ground and the company behind ended up in administration.

Plans for a state-of-the-art Middlesbrough snow centre, which could create 350 jobs, have been given a £250,000 boost by Tees Valley Combined Authority.

Support from the Combined Authority, which has also included almost £4million in funding for a bridge to unlock the site, reflects the important role that the centre will play within the Tees Valley’s plans to grow the tourism economy.

Cool Runnings (NE) Ltd, who lodged the plans, have chosen Ice Factor Group, based in Scotland, to operate the new facility.

Construction is expected to begin in autumn with the £30million snow centre open to the public from September 2019.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “Cool Runnings came to us for extra financial support to get the project over the line, so I am pleased to sign off this funding today.

I can only hope that some good can come out of this given the many paid hours Council employees have put into this scheme. In addition to the costs of Council feasiblity studies on the land, the new £10m bridge, and the Council having also bought the land itself! I feel that the investment deserves a return.

More to come while there's two needless mayoral offices pushing any cowboy outfit to be backed, in their special Tory way.
