Sky Glass, anyone tried it yet?

Me and my Mrs are platinum VIP on sky, and have just signed up for sky glass(our TV was on the way out so would of had to buy a TV anyway). I'm quite excited about it, first 4k TV I have owned. It's getting delivered 1st week in November. Just wondered if anyone else has one yet and what it's like?
I'm not expecting an all singing all dancing TV with the new sky one, but must be an improvement on my 8 year old 42" Hitachi 1080p TV.

I will be interested to see how you get on with it. It looks really good tbh.
Same, I’m considering signing up for it as my tv is getting on abit and isnt the best. bought it in a Black Friday sale about 7 years ago for £200 in Tesco. It’s a no brand 50” screen thing, had my moneys worth and it’s done well to last this long TBH. I bought it for the spare bedroom to put the PlayStation on but the picture was better than the Samsung I had at the time so swapped them round.

It seems like an average spec tv but looks truly awful in terms of thickness, you can get far cheaper and better 4k TV's for the money so the only benefit seems the amalgamation of devices, so you to you if that outweighs the brick of a TV

For me it was the fact I am paying monthly with my sky bill including the TV, and it's costs about the same(I think £3) a month more than I was already paying. Would of signed a new contract shortly with sky anyway as the kids enjoy it, plus with it now I upgraded Netflix so the Teen step kids can all have it in there rooms and can cancel separate Netflix account so will be saving money on what we pay already and getting a brand new TV which I needed anyway. So in my situation it's a win win, probably won't appeal to everyone, especially if you have a good TV already.

Is it all powered via your Broadband?

So if you are watching TV, it could impact the performance of other Internet users in your house - or vice versa? What if there are connectivity problems?

I believe it uses streaming rather than a dish. I would make sure I was using "Sky Broadband" using their WAPs before signing up to it. I've been in these situations before with multiple suppliers all blaming the other for poor performance.

If that happens then the toddlers will be crying because they can't watch Peppa pig, the teenagers will be arguing as they won't have a phone and I will be praying to the wizard of of Oz for a mini tornado to take me far far away from the battle ground which would usually be my humble abode.

So if you are streaming does that mean you’ll have the one minute time lag when watching any sport? That would put me off using it.

If you negotiated a deal like that with sky glass, you could have surely negotiated a cheaper deal without it once your contract was up? You could do the Netflix thing without glass can't you? Many people with sky seem to do that. It looks thicker than the plasma TVs of old. Have you factored in the upgrade you need to pay for Dolby vision etc otherwise you aren't getting the benefit of the tv?

my girlfriends dad was interested in it until I reminded him his broadband was ***** and I showed him how cheap a 4k tv that size was.

It'll be different to dodgy streaming where they have to watch the live feed (already delayed), encode it and upload it to the stream on the fly, it'll be more like starting a Netflix show

Given strict local planning regs Im not allowed a satellite dish so always used Virgin Media cable. Will be looking carefully at this to switch from VM and will be very interested in the reviews.

I looked at it. The TV is probably under spec by the standards of others. Also looks pretty thick as I'd have it wall mounted.

That said most people don't overly care about specs etc. A 4k TV is a 4k TV (although they ain't). I do like the idea of sky being built into the TV and no box or dish.

You can get sky go so I've often wondered why they haven't gone wi fi (no dish) before now. Just a wi fi box and sync tv to it. I guess the only issue is if wi fi goes down you've lost the channels. Then again mine hardly ever drops so not a big issue I guess.

I'll look forward to an update as to what it's like. I actually went to cancel sky the other day and as usual with in 30mins I'd signed a new 18 month contract..... A few quid saved and suckered by a loverly Irish accent on the other end😂

If any users do any gaming, it's not the best for that either as it doesn't have hdmi2.1, only does 60fps at 4k and doesn't support a lot of gaming features (which are beneficial in other ways too)

Wasn’t talking about dodgy streaming.
I’ve got sky go on my iphone and iPad and all the channels are lagging about a minute behind my sky dish. Same with watching live BBC channels on bbc i player on my smart TV or iPad/phone- continual lagging of about a minute. Which to me isn’t great if you are watching live sport.

My lag is about 20 secs. You get to know the score a very short while after the event. As long as you don't know is it that important? Unless you are in play betting of course.

Really?
b***r. I was definitely looking into it as we currently piggyback a family member's sky subscription using the sky Go app on my Xbox but ideally wanted the service for ourselves, especially with the missus coming up to her maternity leave. Whilst the sky Go app is flawless running on Xbox it isn't in HD. My current TV upscales the picture quality a bit but it's nothing like the 4K quality we get with the Netflix and Disney + apps.

I suppose Sky aren't really aiming this Glass to gamers though, obviously trying to get more monthly subscriptions. If the TV itself was better than I'd more than likely sign up as it's convenient to have everything in one box.

Got it in one.
Also I live alone so often sit watching football/sport and texting my mates.
Sorry if that’s a bit sad but it matters to me.
