Any one been. Looking to book as a base for walking the island.Any nice tavernas, like a drink but usually in bed by 11.00.
Any recommendations or considerations?

Harbour area is lovely and there's a micro brewery/craft beer place there too. Plenty of nice tavernas overlooking the harbour.
We went for an afternoon in the Summer when we were at Skiathos. Skiathos was a bit too full on and has really developed commercially since we'd previously been. Skopelos seemed much more relaxing/low key. That said, Alononnisos, was even more laid back and kind of reminded me of what Skiathos was like at the beginning of the 90's. Enjoy!

Bit characterless imho, bus service didn't seem as good as Skiathos to get around. Skiathos much better in May ,early June and September

We booked our own 2 night stay whilst in Skiathos 2 years ago and found it to be quite laid back like the Greek islands were years ago.It gets busy on afternoon wirh Mama Mia boats from Skiathos but we used the local bus to get to a nice beach 20 minutes away then used the town for our evenings out which was fairly quiet with a good selection of restaurants to choose from,Skiathos seems to have gone a bit upmarket nowadays and given the choice I'd choose Skopelos for a proper Greek getaway.

Skopolos very quiet, not a huge amount of restaurants - that could be a good or bad thing, depressing upon your needs. It's still surprisingly traditional in parts.

I preferred Skiathos, it's got a nice relaxed vibe, far more going on and some outstanding restaurant's.

Yes went there and watched the World ~Cup semi final England v Australia all day in 2019 in a Taverna ( there are many) on the quay front. Lovely island and much better than its neighbour Skiathos. Just avoid the Mama Mia tourists.

I wouldn't say Skiathos is full on by any stretch. Yes the town has its tourist shops and stuff but its all pretty chilled out and civilised

Cheers All.
Believe it or not All these contradictory opinions have been very useful!
Think we'll book the 1st weekend in skiathos town with 4 days in skopelos town then 3 days in alonnisos or at top end of skopelos with the last 4 or so days back in skopelos town or skiathos town dependent on our experiences.
Cheers again

Stayed in Skopelos Town for 2 weeks, lovely place with plenty of bars and restaurants. The local bus is great and will take you all over the island. The Mama Mia thing is very low key. If you want a treat go to a restaurant called Agnanti in Glossa (other end of the island) you won’t be disappointed !
