Sir Jonny Howson

All I can say is how incredibly invaluable this extraordinary guy is to Middlesbrough football club! Told to pitch in today in at the CB position and despite his error leading to a goal he still managed to Captain his side to an incredible point at high flying Southampton. Make no mistake about it Jonny Howson will go down in folklore on Teesside, through his attitude, unbinding devotion to the club and people of Teesside. He deserves so much credit and recognition for his leadership and dedication to the game. Please at the end of this season show your appreciation for a player of extraordinary value!

I remember when we signed him & we had a strong central midfield already, it could have been viewed an odd one though I'd always thought him a quality player & you can't have too many of them, so was fine with - Monk's - first signing..

He's just a proper player, it's about the game & doing the best for the team.. his attitude is right & with good ability that is what really benefits the team & so himself long term..

I’m sure JH is fully aware of his cuplpability
He’ll also be wise enough to look at the bigger picture of his and the teams performance yesterday

I think he'll get another season.

For about the 5th season in a row I'll say - definitely a valuable player but definitely needs replacing. Neither DB or O'Brien are the answer there.

Engel with school boy defending was by far the bigger culprit. Howson was unlucky rather than not having a clue about how to defend.

Engel was more at fault for not getting in Armstrongs face as it fell to him.
I think he'd made up his mind Armstrong was going to shoot early, so after his initial movement towards him, he let him control the ball, take a touch & then shoot while being stood a couple of yards away with his arms behind his back.

Having warmed to Engel after being initially dubious of his talents, for a team that is trying to play possession passing football he's too limited and I think the opposition leave him unmarked so that we'll pass to him and they know his next pass will more than likely be to one of them.

Howson was definitely the main person at fault, it was a shocking attempt at what should have been a simple clearance.

Engel should have done better, but the ball should never have reached Armstrong to begin with.

Apart from his early season injury which was unusual for him, at nearly 36, he has been our rock. In a team dropping like flies he just plays, anywhere. As a central midfielder, which involves running, tackling, suspensions due to yellow cards etc his playing record is phenomenal. Since we signed him in 2017 he has played 48, 47, 43, 43, 49, 46 and this year 26 so far. His wages divided by his game time has been great value. Yes, a Legend. (y)🙌👏

I'd be stunned if he hasn't already agreed another year. It's clearly not just going to be offered in June.

Hardly ever misses a match. We are a far better team when he plays. I thought Friday once again showed how much we missed him in CM. He twice the player Barlaser is. Even at 35.

We seen to have the same summer conversation every year. We will probably be saying the same this time next year 😂. Jokes aside we lose O'Brien and Hackney in demand. So it could be a big rebuild in CM. We've been looking for Howsons 'replacement' for 3 years. We've not even come close.

Always really liked him. Has developed a more deep-lying role that suits him (as he's not really a playmaker) and has had many standout games where he's really carried the team. An old skool 'honest pro' who took a pay cut to stay here and has improved since (rather than dialled it in as some would have).

Great player for us but we do need a good replacement for next season if we are going for promotion
