Silvera

The thing is though, when everyone is fit he’s probably 3rd choice in any of the attacking positions.

We can’t keep everyone in the squad next season on the off chance we get another 12 injuries again.
We pretty much play 4 attackers, we will need 8 players for those roles. Silvera won't go on loan next season and will get plenty of opportunities to play.

He can play right, up top or at a squeeze no 10.

Not sure he would be very effective on the left though he did occupy that very position at various points today

You don't go Parmo do you ?
I'm guessing you didn't attend the earlier home games this season, when Silvera started?

Admittedly he has improvemed over the course of the season but he's only made sub appearances. I want him to be playing regularly next season and I'm not convinced that will happen if he stays here.

Thanks for the confirmation 👍

Ah, you must have been impressed by his earlier performances then.

Everyone sees the game differently I guess.
His decision making was the big issue early in the season. I think he was playing in a league where he could blast past people with pace and shoot/cross. This is a couple of levels higher in quality. He’s had to learn when do that and when to change your mind and keep possession. It’s a steep learning curve but he has shown signs of improvement

I do like him. I remember he'd shown real promise with his performances pre-season.

I think I remember him starting at home to QPR and it was clear his decision making was an issue. He'd have shots from 20 yards and looked very weak. Then of course he had an absolute mare in the Sheff Wed away game.

He's shown signs of improvement and I'd be happy enough for him to still be here next season, competing for his place in the side.

I just feel a loan move to another Championship club, or a top League One side where he'd be more likely to play regularly would do his development the world of good.

I sorta see Parmoboys point tbf.
In a strict 4 2 3 1 , he's shown nothing in the league to suggest he has the defense responsibility/ ball retention and decision making to be in the 3 currently.
( With a non athletic CM pairing / or full backs that aren't quick )
If , and it's a big if , Carrick is open to changing formations more often.. then Silvera could be a very very useful player where defensive discipline is less important.

I think his running off the ball has been consistently good. Even when playing badly he seems to get chances and that is not something easy to teach.

A couple of our best performances this season have been with him up top. Will be interesting to see how he does if he gets a run there now.

Yes his off the ball running is generally good it’s what impressed me the most when he played cf away to Huddersfield in the cup

He's definitely improved. Not yet good enough for a first choice starter in a team that is aiming for promotion but if he keeps improving as he is he would be an important part of the 1st 18.

People seem to be forgetting that you buy players like Silvera with the hope that they improve quickly and a lot but, by definition, they aren't good enough at first. Possibly more by accident than judgement, he has probably had the right amount of football this season to maximise his chance to improve. I wouldn't expect him to be a regular starter next season but with injuries and so on, he could easily start 15-20 games and come off the bench another 15-20 teams. You need those kinds of players in the squad.
