We moved across to the updated one, with countless debates going on about all topics under the sun & fors & against carried out in an adult fashion, I've had my disagreements along the way, who hasn't, but he just goes out of his way to cause friction

We haven't had much luck from any league with regards to decent signings in the recent years.
We've had good ones in the past from lower leagues, Slaven and Pally were the two that spring to mind from the 80s, the last decade where we were struggling for cash.
Wing hasn't done too badly for such a big step, there's quite a few divisions between Boro and Shildon and there are players to be had out there.
You need a scouting team with a big network for that, we used to have one, not sure whether or not it was completely dismantled when we became a money club.

Interesting looking at this article on Mowbray rebuilding in 2013, we seem to be at the point again now,

We have signed plenty of lower league players over the years and they have became club legends. Bernie Slaven came from Albion Rovers and they don't get much lower ( well they do but you know what I mean).
Just need a scout who has got a good eye - like Barry Geldart bless him.

he’s to unfit and a luxury that would get found out in the championship , thinks he’s better than he is. Only Sunderland player I would sign is Luke O’nien

agreed he wasn't horrific but he was beneath championship standard. HE got 12 goals in both full seasons IIRC, then about 4 goals in a season for Millwall. He just lacked any real strengths, average at finishing, poor in the air, couldn't hold it up, moderate dribbler, moderate pace. He was deeply underwhelming compared to his reputation and ego

the best part of his game was that he looked busy but that really isn’t something to be remembered fondly for. Technically he was bang average and should be remembered as such , was expecting a lot more than what he showed when he signed
