Should Boro Bid Again To Be A City?

This is not just about a vote whether or not to be a "City".
You highlight a number of issues and area which concern you.
Find out how you can become involved - become active - contact Campaign for Sustainable Transport [for example]- find out what you can do.
Contact your local Councillor and say "I want to make a difference"...or your MP.
Find out who`s involved in planning and implementation.
Are there local groups involved - such as charities which represent the Physically and Mentally "disabled".
Be imaginative.
Its a minefield - but thats democracy - it needs kicking.
Dont stand at the back - it gets none of us anywhere.
Ask the Suffragettes (y) ;)
Roofie mate - I think my local councillors are sick to death of me being on their case!

Yarm has been around longer than Stockton. Guisborough or Gisborough is the historic capital of Cleveland.
Middlesbrough has Teesside University, the Riverside Stadium and Sports Village and one of the biggest hospitals in the country.
But Middlesbrough could easily be a city working with Stockton and all the other towns in the area - that is how the last city bid was put together working with the other councils before and the promise of doing so afterwards.
Stockton has the International Riverside festival, invented the friction match and was part of the first passenger railway line. It has the historical Globe theatre, an international white water course and barage, the infinity bridge, the newport bridge and the Transporter bridge. We can go on like this ....

I voted against Middlesbrough city bid

I've read through this entire thread and there are positive things that appeal to the residents of Middlesbrough but exactly what is there to draw tourists? What would a family get to do within Middlesbrough if they booked an AirBnB for the weekend in your town?

Nobody has heard of Stockton or has any idea where it is. Stockton is a lot smaller in reality.
The bloody stupid UA boundaries don’t help.
Places grow and thrive with a figurehead.
Newcastle leads Tyneside.
Sunderland leads Wearside.
Liverpool leads Merseyside.
Hull Humberside.
Middlesbrough would prosper and drive the smaller towns around it with bigger national profile.

What a ludicrous statement.

Humberside was rightly abolished in 1996.

Likewise Teesside.
Hull and Middlesbrough however...

Mention Stockton anywhere else in the country and they haven't a clue what or where it is.
No clue.
Well plenty of people in the live music industry and many people I know South and North of Stockton would tell you other wise.

I have little interest in Middlesbrough being a city or not.

I am more interested in reversing the loss of identity for Teesside or Cleveland as a Country or region.

I hate having to select County Durham or North Yorkshire on online (or other) forms and shipping details etc.

Its boiled down to Stockton V The Rest of The World, I see!

Perhaps Stockton could rejoin Durham and Boro could [officially] - again - be recognised as the largest Town furthest north in North Yorkshire?;)(y)

Sorry Billy - I was posting this at the same time as you posted your comment. Polar opposite maybe?
Slightly tongue - in - cheek from me. (y)

It costs a fortune to change those things over - fortunately postcode and not county is all that the Royal Mail now need on an address. And increasingly the county is optional on those drop down menus for things.

@rob_fmttm - you said "Get on board. I am on the taskforce and we need positive help and support."

How do we get on board?

Can you share any more info on the task force? Who else is on it, what's plans are etc?
