Shocking stat

I remember a team trying to play without a striker in the Prem. I don’t think it was too successful, but they were not doing it for half a season as we are. The truth is that the club have committed a great faux pas and it has cost us any chance of promotion. Let’s now concentrate on not getting relegated.

Yes but we don’t need a striker apparently
What we need is someone who makes a run in the box , to get in front of their marker.

We have movement all over the pitch until they get in the box and then they seem to stand still. Lots of people in the box but when most of our crosses are on the ground, you need to be running across the defenders, rather than standing behind them.

And who can finish

And who can finish
The way I see it we rarely get that far, as we don't manage to pick out players in the box. I know we have 20 odd shots a game but these always seem to be last thought desperation.

The number of times we get wingers round the back of the defence only for the cross to be easily cleared is such a waste

That is a really interesting stat OP. A lot of football data is a bit blah but that’s very clear cut - there’s only one cause of, and solution to that problem. Get better strikers (or get the ones we’ve got, fit.)

The good news is that we are creating the chances in the first place. I’d say it’s equally hard to create good chances and to finish them off, which is why attacking players are so expensive, so we’re winning half the battle at least.

I agree we are missing chances, but we’d take some pressure off if we didn’t need to score 2 or 3 goals to win a game. There’s nothing wrong with being tight at the back, not conceding, having 3 shots and winning 1-0, there’s more than 1 way to skin a cat. We’re putting a lot of pressure on our forwards to take chances, with our rank bad defending
