Sheff Wed almost relegated.. Charlton not happy

So the panel recognises that Sheff Wed should have had the points penalty this season, but the EFL's pursuit of a second charge allows them to push it to next season and have a full season to avoid being relegated.
What is the point of having rules if two wrongs can essentially make a right as in this case?
Wednesday should have been relegated and also be facing the consequences of the second charge, not having an initial punishment lessened by further wrongdoings.

"In two documents, totalling 51 pages, released by the EFL on Monday, the commission said a number of factors lay behind its decision, including the EFL's failure to push for a speedy sanction in a similar case involving Derby County"

Is it me or does that read like Derby have been found guilty but the punishment hasn't been decided yet?

It certainly sounds like that.

Would love them both to start with deductions next season, gives us a better chance and also might end with them relegated.

Shame the appeals will drag on for months.

It will knack both teams in signing players also. Sheff Wed are struggling because a) no player wants to go to a guaranteed relegation battle and b) Sheff Wed can only really offer League One wages cause that's where they will likely play next year.

Seems like a shoddy excuse. Surely the independent panel should confirm guilt or innocence. The EFL then should have a rule book for penalties and timing thereof.
The EFL stating Sheff We’d had players who refused to play after their contract expired and couldn’t play them out of trouble made me laugh, didn’t Charlton have players who refused to play.

That was the independent panel arguing that, not the EFL.

Who make up the independent panel?

IIRC, it's 3 people, one selected by the EFL, one by the offending club, and one neutral, but I can't actually find any details to back this up from a quick Google.

Either way, the panel has repeatedly gone against the EFL's public wishes in the past few years in regards to punishments.

They wanted Birmingham punished again, Bolton punished again, Sheffield Wednesday punished this season, they wanted Macclesfield punished this season and had to appeal the panel's judgement to succeed.

I'm not going to pretend that the EFL have been close to competent, but this panel seem to make a lot of the ultimate decisions.

It seems that the football is not that important any more.
Next season let's just put the accountants on the pitch.
We can cheer them on as they calculate who breached what financial rule.
I hate FFP. Its spoiling football. I still don't know for sure who went down last season.
I hate the fact that it's needed even more.
