Selling Vinyl Records

I’ve recently inherited my dad’s record collection and there are a load I’m going to keep. However, there are a few rarer ones that I’m thinking about selling. I’ve looked on eBay and discogs, but being a novice I’m not sure how to accurately grade and value them, as there’s such a variation of prices out there.

Just wondered if there are any experts on here with advice on whether I should just stick them on eBay or to try a local record shop first and see what they offer? Any other tips would also be appreciated.

Discogs prices are ridiculous, but all vinyl valuation comes down to two factors (known in the business as "Grades". One for the condition of the vinyl itself, and one for the sleeve condition.)

The best way to approximate prices is to search on eBay, checking the "completed listings" setting. Nearly all sellers will use the grading system and will mention it in the listing.

No matter how rare a record is, you won't get top cash if the condition is any less than VG or VG+

I've been selling vinyl on and off for about 20 years, so any questions just ask

Any chance you could put a list up?

That's good advice. The thing with asking a record shop is they will need to make a profit so would probably undervalue it. A list would be good to see.

Try and visit a record fair. As said condition is all important. I sold individual records for £40-50, and the remaining collection for £1000. You have to accept that the slightest damage can put them off, and if you're happy with an offer, it doesn't matter how much that dealer puts it on sale for.

happy to help grading ... I used to have a record shop and would be more than ok helping you grade ... I am in the UK for a couple of months selling my mums house in Wingate so if your local a couple of hours would do it. Not interested in buying so honest grading and will show you how to use Discogs andPopsike

I'd rather not think about selling my albums but I don't think I'd be fancying selling more than the handful of valuable(ish) one individually. Would just get what I could for the rest in bulk. I don't think I'd have it in me to package and send many individually, it'd be a right going on.
