I could be wrong but they were probably black-headed gulls which are quite small and meek compared to herring gulls who are naturally bold and aggressive, especially when it comes to food. They would have probably bullied their way into the mix no problem, but still I wonder if many birds do think twice about tangling with corvids, given their superior intelligence and craftiness.Coincidence as I was walking home tonight there were 4 jackdaws eating some bread buns that somebody had dropped. ( This is not a Dads joke). There were about 20 gulls flying above but none of them seemed brave enough to come down and challenge the Jackdaws. They were just screaming as they do. The gulls outnumbered them and were probably nearly twice the size. Wonder what evolutionary trait prevented conflict here?

They were like 4 little clint eastwoods -I get the impression that crows and the like are the bird equivalent of biker gangs.
