Scottish MP - £11k iPad bill

He shouldn't have lied and tried to get the book through expenses obviously and he will probably end up losing his job over it. It is absolutely disgusting though that phone companies are allowed to charge that much. His kids used his data to stream football matches while they were away. It was 6GB of data. The bill was £11k. It wasn't excessive use. What he did was wrong but those telecoms companies, EE in this case, should also be called out.

How on earth can it be £11,000 though? I can’t get my head around that. Why didn’t they just order a Sky Sports subscription for £70 or whatever it is. It doesn’t ring true to me tbh.

I think he’s more likely to lose his job over GDPR.

As I understand it the iPad had a SIM in it and his kids knew the password to use it as a hotspot. As far as I'm aware they wouldn't need to touch the thing at all if the numpty had left hotspot switched on and it was powered up. And if he wasn't using it at the time why wasn't it switched off?

He must surely have been told not use it as a hotspot and he would have to give the password to the kids so he has probably broken several security rules. Enough to lose his job...🤷‍♀️

He's on a fair whack .. pay it back ..
Otherwise... He's looking so out of touch, with his constituents , that his argument doesn't matter .
Using your ' parliamentry ' privilege expenses, to stream online is a terrible look .
They won't be distracted locally by his ' justification '

If he's lied about it. its a straight dismissal for me and possibly criminal prosecution just as some MPs got who deliberately fiddled their expenses.

His son must have had access to all his passwords for the I-Pad - amazing.

For reports it sounds like he was using his son to be his unofficial IT technician, so much for the high security of Government.

In Morocco can't virtually any UK professional match be bought for £10 on a basic online connection? if he and his son are big Celtic fans they will surely know that.

Blame it on the kids.

My toddler son once bought 3 playstation games online (just walking around with his brothers controller) which cost over £200! ... Sony did refund 🫣

Surely it must be impossible to get a bill for £11,000 just streaming football matches.
His son would have had to have been watching football 24 hrs per day for weeks and weeks on end.
Something not quite right about this.

Thats a lot more than 6gb for 11k.

I used an extra 1 gb in the US over the summer and it was £110
It was a per Mb charge for data. I'm sure I saw that it was £6 per Mb. If that was the case then there must have been a daily cap or it would have been £36k instead of just £11k.

6Gb of data is really not a lot. A HD stream of one game is about 3Gb.

Paying per Mb is fine if you were just sending some WhatsApp messages. Not so great for streaming HD video.

It doesn't matter if they have a subscription or not. This was using mobile data whilst roaming!
