Scam interceptors - BBC…

Just caught a bit of it there where they’re playing ‘jeopardy’ music and building tension as a team rush to stop a scam that they’re watching on an intercepted computer transaction…

Is it me, or does it all feel a bit fake it’s self… I know these scams do happen and highlighting them is good, but surely they’re dramatising it for effect?

They are dramatising it , but these scum scammers do use these tactics

It seems a lot the scammers they intercept are in India. Are the authorities there not as robust as they should be to stop them, or is it just easier to hack into the scammers' systems there than ones in other countries?

At this time of year the scammers will be hoping to catch people out

Hopefully nobody will fall for them but anyone getting an automated call from ‘Bank Security’/‘Visa Security’ please don’t press 1 or 0 to speak - they are criminals

Ring your bank on a number you know is genuine - and they will tell you the actual situation (which will almost certainly be nothing has happened)

I had a customer yesterday who paid someone £791 to "fix" her locked screen - locked with "microsoft" numbers to ring to fix of course. My main thought is if people are prepared to spend £791 for a computer fix..... why do I only charge her £40 an hour!!!! I asked her, and she said "yes, it did seem a lot", whilst happily handing over all her details. There is no help for some people unfortunately.

They have some new tech in this show which means sometimes they can conference in to the convo so a 3 way chat and just tell the scammee that they are being scammed whilst the scammer is listineing , saying who is this please? Was quite funny the other day. Also they are working with some tech reps of the software that is used to share screens. So after they have the main IP hub address of where the call centre is and they have made their tv bits , they get the techs to block out all the user ids associated with that call centre then they also block the main IP from using that software so in effect the call centre cant run anymore. Obv they will setup again but enough disruption for quite a while. Top stuff

I like watching YouTube videos like the one I shared about people getting back at the scammers.

I enjoy watching these real anti-scam hackers on YT. Not watched the BBC one and not really interested based on the OP.

If I get bored and decide to play I answer in Cypriot and give them as much insults as I can and know. They soon go, then block them.

If your so called bank calls, ask them for information, Your branch name and maybe the last transaction, something they should know.

PC scammers are good but when you ask them which computer as you are working in Curry's or PC World, they seem to give up the chase.

When the “Computer Fixers” ring up I just tell them I don’t have a Computer, I hate technology and I don’t even have a phone. They soon get the message. (y)
